I first became acquainted with Marines when I roomed with a future-Marine in my first year in high school (a military boarding school). My best friend in college went into the Marines (and sadly, was killed in the barracks bombing in Beiruit).

Nothing has changed in all these years... Marines are still the most honorable folks on the planet... they still have my deepest gratitude for all they have done for this country over the years.

I would have loved to see that Marine deck Kerry on the spot... but then Marines are above that... they have self-discipline.... which makes them so effective.

Hang in there Marines... many of us civilians do appreciate you, and I now regret not being more vocal about these truths over the years!

I alway's enjoy seeing marines after they have finished basic training. They are superman and they have not yet cultivated the discipline. They go out and get their butts kicked in fights they saught like heat seeking missiles. A year later they are a different animal. Quite a metamorphisis.
