Focus on a national identity is where this opinion goes astray. Nothing here that a little free access to capital wouln't cure. People striving to achieve their own goals would fill the void this author identifies. Excitement for, say a new soccer stadium? Sportswear based upon uniforms? New cars to get you back and forth to the game? I am guessing this doesn't fit with his view on things. His dismal focus denies human nature and smacks of racism.

Yes, it's depressing, but actually, there are many similarities to here.
I don't think the majority of young people here are interested in politics or international affairs.
They're interested in music, and fashion and entertainment.
Obviously, as far as freedoms, there's No comparison, especially with Iranians living outside Tehran. And young people here have NO comparison for violations against human rights. (they don't have to worry about being arrested for improper attire or hand-holding)

The problem with waiting for "the egg to hatch", if I understand the author, is that time is running out. The world may not be able to wait for the end of incubation period. The regime can not be allowed to have nuclear weapons. If there's a way to speed up the 'hatching' process, let's do it. Let us help.
Sometimes, even baby chicks need a little help getting out of their shells.
