"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Lewis "

Life under the mullahs.

"I don't think Iranian's want US help anymore than the Iraqi's do."

That's not what I've read.
But time's running out ......the mullahs cannot have nukes.

I agree, and life was probably nearly as bad under Saddam but you have seen how quickly the Iraqi's have said essentially, "thanks, now get out".

People get the government they deserve. You can't force democracy and individual freedom on people who don't want it. Iraqi's still have a tribal culture. Democracy is as alien to them as human sacrifice is to us. They just don't get it.

Iran is somewhat different. These people have had over 20 years of Islamic government. They hate it, and if given enough time the old Mullahs will die and the new generation will take over. They will have learned once and for all, on their own, that Islamic governments don't work. Hopefully it will be a lesson that spreads throughout the region.

The thing that could change that and give the Islamic government new life is if Iran were threatened from the outside. Then patriotism would compel all Iranians to fight on the same side. Do you want to risk that?
