I agree. people like Mr. Hacking will get less time for the crimes he committed against his wife.

I don't know about that! She was 5 weeks pregnant; and in UT, they might look at that as violence against an unborn child. And that child is also a victim of violence. A few years ago, there was a case of a woman who was shot and killed by her ex-husband. She was divorced from him, I think, and she was pregnant by a man she was going to marry.

Well one day, when she was at work, the "ex" shows up at her work-place, and shoots her. And I mean he deliberately shot her square in the stomach! He had found out she was pregnant, and had aimed at the unborn child! Well needless to say, he got convicted for killing the woman and the child!

Now I'm going to assume that Lori told him she was pregnant, as well as the rest of their combined families. We don't know at this point if that was one of the reasons Mark killed her. A lot hasn't come out yet about his motive(s). But if the presence of the child was one of the reasons, they'll nail him for sure! He might even get double trouble even if the baby was not one of his motives.

But I do remember that the ex-husband got in even more trouble because he shot his "ex" in the stomach, and killed both of them. The baby was considered as much of a victim as she was in that older case! Also, recently there was legislation from Congress that was named for Laci and Connor Peterson, wasn't there? I believe it went through, didn't it? I know that the abortion rights groups were squalling about it all over the place!

We should just wait & see what happens. The prosecution will go for the harshest penalty possible while the defense will cite mitigating circumstances. I don't think 38 years in prison is very likely.
