The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

With the nation on high alert for al-Qaida terrorists, the Department of Homeland Security is putting its border officers through "etiquette" classes to soften their image and make them less threatening to arriving foreign immigrants, WorldNetDaily has learned.

Pope's health seriously weakened -Belgian cardinal

BRUSSELS, Aug 16 (Reuters) - Pope John Paul's health has deteriorated and the head of the Roman Catholic Church may be near the end of his life, a Belgian cardinal was quoted as saying on Monday.

The 84-year-old Pope, who has Parkinson's disease and severe arthritis, visibly struggled as he wound up an emotional visit to the French miracle shrine of Lourdes on Sunday.

A crowd of about 200,000 listened to his words from a field near the grotto where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to a peasant girl in 1858.

"It was one of the most moving celebrations ever," Belgian Cardinal Godfried Danneels, who is seen as a leading contender to succeed John Paul, was quoted as saying in the Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws.

"The Pope's health has seriously weakened. When the Pope says: 'I end my pilgrimage here', that could mean two things. That, at least was how people listening to him in the field interpreted it. It was almost his goodbye to Lourdes and maybe also to his life," the cardinal added.

Danneels told Belgian VRT radio the Pope's comments about the end of his pilgrimage "may point to something deeper."

"It could of course mean that it is not something that will happen tomorrow or next month but that he does consider that the end is approaching," he added.

The Pope, whose speech is often hard to understand, no longer walks in public and has to be wheeled around in a special chair.

His voice was sometimes slurred during Sunday's open-air Mass and he nearly collapsed on Saturday as he knelt at the grotto.

It is not the first time his frailty on a foreign trip has fuelled speculation over how long he has left to live.

During a visit to Slovakia last September, he was so weak his aides had to read most of his speeches. Many people believed then that he would not travel again.

I've not seen any public statements by anyone about this. Why hasn't Denny's raised the roof?

Well, because the GOV can. In case of emergency they can do anything they want. So it's really no big deal, I am sure they will be compensated.

Rio Grande: Gateway to Terrorism
By Julian Coman
London Telegraph | August 16, 2004

President Bush has launched a drive to halt illegal immigration across America's porous southern border, amid growing fears that terrorists may be using Mexico as a base camp before heading to Arizona, Texas and California.

I'd like the octagonal barreled Henry .17 HMR lever, myself.

My gripe with .17 HMR is expensive, rimfile ammo. The range is littered with .17 HMR brass. .204 Ruger is boxer primed, reloadable.

My wife is waiting for the Ruger MkIII in .17 Mach2. It's a rimfire .17 cal in a necked down .22LR cartridge. The .22LR MkII pistols can be refitted with a .17 Mach2 barrel if desired. Release is still a few weeks away. Ammo prices and availability will figure significantly in my decision.

NK bought some old Soviet era ballistic missile boats supposedly for scrap a few years back. I believe they were Golf class boats. They could be modified and made operational if they werent too far gone, but I wouldnt sail in one-too old and too much hull stress.

Sail mounted vertical launch tubes capable of firing the SS-N-5 or SS-N-6 missile, IIRC

Listening to Chicago Fire Department on the scanner. They are sending each battalion chief, one at a time, to "Field Group North" to pick up the "antidote kit" from someone there. They have been mentioning a bio-terror exercise as well.

Target shooting and reloading is a hobby for me. It gets attention when I have "free" time. My range is an outdoor facility, so the weather has to be right too. A windy day is not a good time to go. We have lots of windy days. Access during winter is difficult with deep snow and steep access roads. Imagine trying to shoot with a 20 knot wind and 20 degree ambient temperature. Your fingers get numb before you can shoot the first target...if the darn wind doesn't knock it down first.

A bunch of the local gun shops and the range members are working on building an indoor range. A place with good backstops, good lighting, proper ventilation and reasonable control of temperatures. That would permit indoor shooting when you have "free" time, rather than limiting opportunities to when you have "free" time AND the weather is suitable.

The flat trajectory, the additional 25 yards over .22 WMR, very little sail effect from wind, and the same effectiveness as the .22 WMR have sold me. The round is on the verge of being approved for coyote, too.

Rimfire can be fun. The prices will come down when the market expands. It's still too new for a big market. The "secret" will spread soon enough.

State of Grace
South Carolina Could Be Destination for Christian Exodus

By Dean Schabner

Aug. 12, 2004 — Cory Burnell has given up on ever seeing the U.S. government adopt a conservative Christian agenda, so he and others who share his beliefs are trying to take matters into their own hands.

Burnell, 28, is one of the founders of ChristianExodus.org, a group that hopes to gather conservative Christians for a series of mass moves to South Carolina. The goal is to bring enough voters to the state to establish a government based on the Ten Commandments and conservative Christian values.

Sub launched nukes are a much bigger threat than ICBM. Almost no hope of nailing them in "boost" phase. Time of flight is short because they move close to the target. It would be a darn shame if a few of those refurbished boats experienced a hull failure.

.17 HMR is stocked in all the local stores. Perhaps I'll give a try some time. The locals like it for nailing crows.

If you're going to go for meat, make sure you headshoot only. It's not very nice to squirrel and rabbit.
