Again, the most incendiary parts of the original Atlantic Monthly article are left out of this article by the Aussies. Why? Are they trying to make Al-Qaeda look like a bunch of normal guys?

The vermin said that muslims should kill no more than 4 million infidels and leave 10 million homeless.

Terrorist nuclear strike in US: Risk is growing
By Nicholas D. Kristof

IF A 10-kiloton nuclear weapon, a midget even smaller than the one that destroyed Hiroshima, exploded in Times Square, the fireball would reach tens of millions of degrees Celsius.

It would vaporise or destroy the theatre district, Madison Square Garden, the Empire State Building, Grand Central Terminal and Carnegie Hall (along with me and my building). The blast would partly destroy a much larger area, including the United Nations. On a weekday, some 500,000 people would be killed.

Could this happen? Unfortunately, it could - and many experts believe that such an attack, somewhere, is likely.

The Aspen Strategy Group, a bipartisan assortment of policy mavens, focused on nuclear risks at its annual meeting here last week, and the consensus was twofold: the danger of nuclear terrorism is much greater than the public believes, and the United States government hasn't done nearly enough to reduce it.

Iraq: Foreigners threatening mosque
National conference troubled by protests, attacks

Sunday, August 15, 2004 Posted: 4:44 PM EDT (2044 GMT)

The Imam Ali mosque serves as camp for supports of al-Sadr.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Twenty-five heavily armed foreigners holed up inside the Imam Ali Mosque in Najaf have rigged it with explosives and are threatening to blow up the building if attacked, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said Sunday in a written statement.

The statement said the interim Iraqi government has ordered national guard forces not to target the mosque, and not to approach it.

The mosque, in the center of Najaf, is a holy site to Shiite Muslims. They believe it houses the tomb of the Prophet Muhammed's cousin and son-in-law. (snip)

I agree Selene. Seems the author injected a touch of empathy into the article. I found the information about the code words interesting, regardless. :-)
