If, as Republicans maintain, no link exits between the Bush campaign and the swift-boat veterans, why didn't the White House denounce the ad when Sen. John McCain, the target of a similar campaign in his fight against Bush during the 2000 primary campaign, asked it to.

More importantly, why didn't McCain go and speak to the SBVT before issuing his criticism?

Extending Larsen's "logic," Kerry, who not only did not denounce the DNC attacks and accusations on the National Guard service issue, but actually used the issue to attack the President, must therefore be allied with the Bush hating forces led by Moveon.org and George Soros. This is in direct violation of the McCain Feingold law.

Has McCain issued any denouncement of these allegations and the potential illegality of Kerry's association with them? No. He said "I think John Kerry served honorably in Vietnam. I think George Bush served honorably in the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam War."<

Even more, McCain said the following (2/3/04 FoxNews website): "Everything that I've heard -- every bit of information I've ever heard, I never got into it because I wasn't that interested -- is that he served honorably and well. And I assume that to be the case," McCain said on MSNBC. Fair enough, but what about this:

Asked about McAuliffe's charge that Bush was "AWOL" during the war, McCain said: "Well, but that charge was never proven."

"I don't know," McCain said. "You know, all is fair in love and war, and maybe they'll have to answer those questions again."

But the SBVT are dishonorable liar, aren't they John? I guess you determined that with your impeccable ability to assess character and your hair trigger soldier's instincts.

Wake me up when it's over........

And once again, the Republicans make a political issue out of the Vietnam War.

Excuuuse me! Kerry made his "service" in Vietnam a centerpiece of his campaign. "Reporting for Duty", was the phrase he used at the convention, followed by a salute so bad that it would have had him marching tours at any basic training or officer training establishment of any service. He's also said he would use the "lessons he learned in war" to formulate a better (and he said "more sensitive") war on terro. He's the one who brought it up. He just thought he could get away with it, the Swift Vets are merely trying to make sure he doesn't.

Affirmative on that. Contributions can also be sent to: Swift Boat Veterans for Truth; c/o Weymouth Symmes, Treasurer; P.O. Box 26184; Alexandria, VA 22313. Checks to be made to "Swift Boat Veterans For Truth". Include your occupation and employer.

My local book dealer in s.e. Ohio called Columbus this morning for "Unfit for Command" - and was informed by the distributor that there is a very strong demand for this book and that the distributor's entire stock of 9,000 copies has been sold - another shipment is awaited.

Thanks for the snail mail address and how to. I will add that to my pings. I hope that we keep running the distributors out of the book.

Merrie Spaeth, was a Reagan administration press officer and a Ken Starr adviser during President Clinton's impeachment. She also is the widow of an O'Neill law partner.

Wow...are they ever reaching.

Years ago, before it was the Star, it was the News Chronicle. It was awful even then. My Dad would just go ballistic every time he sat down to read the paper. Even back then people were pushing for a more conservative view and less "liberal color" as my dad put it. Considering how conservative the area is, I find it pretty amazing that they continue to stick with the same format year after year.

Kennedy was involved in the plot to remove the Diem brothers. All hell broke loose because they got killed and because the generals who staged the coup proved to be incapable of running the country.

Kenendy was dedicated to extracting US personnel from South Vietnam...

I suppose you have some proof of this assertion? I find it quite difficult to believe this canard, when earlier in the year, he had basically ordered the assassination of the Diem brothers, democratically elected leaders of the country, and fellow Catholics.

The radiocal left has always insisted on this particular fantasy, in order to blame "the right wing", or "the military industrial complex" on the assassination of JFK, ala Oliver Stone, but there are basically no facts to butress this...

Personally I believe that LBJ was behind the murder. As I said, I have heard testimony from soldiers who three or four days after LBJ was sworn in, were literally on the plane home and were ordered to get off. You can look at the numbers. The last couple of months JFK was reducing the number of troops in South Vietnam and one year after his murder, there were tens of thousands more.

Perhaps it was his intention to allow South Vietnam to come under the rule of the generals because he thought that they would escalate the fight against the Viet Cong. When that didn't happen, he decided to pull out.

I personally believe LBJ was behind the murder.

As much as I dislike LBJ, and can envision him as killing JFK for various reasons, Occam's razor dictates that another was behind the death of both John and Robert Kennedy, and that individual was none other than Sam "Momo" Giancana, late of the Chicago mob. At the end of the day, one simply cannot bed the sex-toy of a mob chieftain with impunity, as both these fools (who given their own background, should have known better) discovered...

Kerry opened up this can of worms and I am writing to the paper with my view of Larsen's biased opinion. ( between grandbaby, business and Hubby.)
By the way if our letters are ignored let's contact the advertisers. I am tired of this paper's shenanagins!

The veterans challenged Kerry on the war, but it is Kerry in peace they abhor more because he had the character to speak out against the Vietnam War. These swift-boat veterans need a swift boot to remind them freedom of speech is a key part of the Constitution each took an oath to defend.

I found this the most offensive piece of sophistry in the entire spew. It didn't take any "character" for Kerry to make anti-war speeches in the early 70's - he was playing to the mob. Then this writer wants to put the jackboot to a group of veterans for expressing their views in an election campaign - a right, presumably, they shed their blood to defend for themselves as well as billionaire senators like Kerry.

Man, this stuff is making me nuts.

Note that Kerry 'had character' to tell what he knew, and these folks 'are disgraceful' because they are telling what they know.

God, even a child could figure this out.
