U.S. forces prepare to storm Najaf

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.S. and Iraq forces are preparing a final assault on Shi'ite militia positions in the holy town of Najaf, U.S. military has said.

"Iraqi and U.S. forces are making final preparations as we get ready to finish this fight that the Moqtada (al-Sadr) militia started, " Colonel Anthony M. Haslam, commanding officer of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit in Najaf, said in a statement on Wednesday.

The liberal ABCnews radio reporter from London this morning, said if we go in and destroy Sadr we will create an uprising across the country. I say the opposite. If we put an end to this guy and his followers, there will be more stablity in the country. You get what you tolerate and the Iraqis should not tolerate this in their county, Sadr must be killed and his followers.

Terrorism will probably continue after Sadr is neutralized. New terrorists will take the ranks of those who are no longer there, and new groups will form. It is therefore the US must extend its arm to combating using various ways (not just military) the ideology causing the terrorists to be bred in Iraq and throughout the Islamic world.
