Tonight will be the best night to see it. This one does put on a good show- worth the effort to see it. I'll post a link to the article. It has interesting facts and information about this event and about meteor showers in general.

I can't get into the article...when is the best time to see and what part of the country???
To: fly_so_free
Do we have to be logged in to watch?
Someone needs to call the shower for the cubicle bound...

From what I read in the paper this morning, 1 to 3 a.m. in all time zones; look North Northeast. In my experience if you miss that window and get up just before daylight you can still see some activity.

"Light pollution is a real killer when it comes to meteor showers," says Kevin Conod, an astronomer at the Newark Museum's Dreyfuss Planetarium in New Jersey. Hey, I went to college with this guy! Absolutely a top-notch fellow. Goes by the nickname "Doc".

I question the timing of this shower...Nah, all year long lots of people have been telling me that I need a shower.

For observers at roughly 40 N latitude (NYC, Chicago, etc.), the best times come midnight and later. Earlier, you may try looking to the NE, near the constellation, Perseus. Meteors should appear to originate from this area of the sky. As it gets later in the night, Perseus will appear nearly overhead, which makes viewing even better.
Good luck!

I question the timing of this shower... Yes! No doubt there is a connection of this to those in the astronomy community with the timiong of this. Why, many spaced based enterprises are in Texas. Do I have to paint the picture for you people?

Not here it isn't. We have Bonnie coming tonight/tomorrow, and then Charlie coming on Friday. Good luck seeing the Perseids in the South. Then again, I have been into astronomy for 30+ years and have only seen one Persied shower, and it was 25 years ago. :(

"Today is the first day it's rained in 3 weeks."Any chance it might clear up by tonight?
Boy, rain sure isn't a problem where I live (San Gabriel Valley in So. California). It's supposed to get to 105 degrees today- another good reason to stay outside tonight.
