I still want a Contender frame. I'd be tickled with a barrel for .223 and one for .308 or 7.62X51 NATO. Midway just offered .204 Ruger barrels recently. I'm more interested in commonly available calibers when it comes to shooting a Contender. Military surplus if possible.
Since the Encore frame came out the Contender barrel selection has really dropped off. Try scouting around
E. Arthur Brown for TC parts. The catalog has a much larger chamber listing than the website, BTW. There's usually a good supply of older Contender barrels at gun shows too.
.308 and .30-'06 are only available in the Encore I believe. Really, other than cartridge compatibility, you'd have a hard time getting anything out of either of those that you couldn't get from a .30 Herrett. Even a .30-30 doesn't give you much more than leftover powder. I'm not allergic to wildcats but there is something in being able to just load factory brass.
