That is pretty cool. Thanks. I hadn't heard the kilt story, don't see how that would refer to "giving it all," and always thought 8 yards was the length of a Scotts kilt.
This definitely calls for more research!

If you give someone "all 9 yards" of your kilt you are pretty much left standing there in your moggans and nothing else. You've given them everything there is to give.
Kilts also would double as bedding if you were sleeping rough. The extra fabric folded into pleats.
