John O'Neill To Be On Hardball Tonight
Hardball | 8/12/04 | Chris Matthews

Posted on 08/12/2004 4:04:32 PM PDT by pookie18

Since O'Neill will be the guest, I'm sure it will be "hardball". However, after what he encountered on Crossfire with Carvile (sic) & Leapin' Lanny Davis, this'll probably feel like a walk in the park...

I heard Carvilles meltdown was epic. Matthews will probably try the same thing tonight. Who cares, even the die hard lefties I spar with at work know Kerry is a fraud. And believe me, that is saying something..

That man is one tough hombre. After running the Carville-Davis hate gauntlet today, anybody else would be decompressing and trying to put their thoughts back together in one piece. But he's shaking it off and taking on Chrissy!

What he should do is just say three words of a sentence and stop abruptly. Then if Chris hasn't already interrupted, he can just say, 'Oh, I was expecting you to break in, Chris.'

Not sure about the termination, but if true I guess he could replace McEnroe on CNBC. Matthews also has a Sun. AM show on the local NYC NBC affiliate.

From Chapter 3:

"For military personnel no medal or award (with the exception of the Congressional Medal of Honor) holds the significance of the Purple Heart."

I'm not a military man, but I am a Bill Mauldin fan, and I remember a cartoon from WWII which seems to be making the opposite point. Willie (or Joe, I forget which) stands in front of a card table at which a Medic is seated. On the table is a stack of small boxes, one of which the medic is offering to the dogface. The caption reads: "Just gimme a couple aspirin. I already got a purple heart." Has this changed since then?

Adulterous gay affair was about to be revealed in a lawsuit by (I believe) a state employee.

Possibly releated to illegal fundraising/ major donor misconduct.

HE resigned because his "lover" (yuck) was blackmailing him. The guy wanted lots of money or he would go public.

The same guy - was given a the Homeland Security position for the state even though he had no qualifications for this job.

There are also numerous fund raising scandals that this could be attached to.

The media is desperately trying to paint this guy a victim of homosexuality discrimination.

I don't know enough about NJ politics to know if the NJ media will help him. In Atlanta we had a black democrat for a mayor - Bill Campell. Strange enough the liberal AJC tore Campbell to shreds over the numerous shady deals he was involved in. Campbell yelled racism every time but the AJC kept tearing into him.

McGreevy gave his boyfriend 5 different jobs.......the boyfriend is a non-American (Israeli) who was appointed to be head of NJ Homeland Security, yet he could not be cleared to attend Homeland Security meetings. There's some more dark stuff behind this that still has not come out, as I understand it.

One pundit (I think it was Buchanan) said the civil lawsuit the boyfriend has filed is really a shakedown for $5 million. More dirt is expected.

The horrible part is that by waiting until Nov. 15 for his resignation to take place, McGreevy has ensured that the dems will continue in power instead of having an election for gov. Nov. 2.

OK, there is a little theory that I have been kicking around privately:

Just in case people think this former Swift Boat commander John O'Neill is a Republican - he has been a Democrat all his life, and supported John Edwards in the most recent nomination process within the Democrat party.

A Democrat who has a personal and real dislike (running back many years) for John Kerry. Just go to the Dick Cavett show videotape where Kerry and O'Neill had a face-off back about 1972 or so.

John O'Neill may still support Edwards on the top of the ticket.

You don't suppose that John O'Neill might be trying to get Kerry bumped off the ticket (a la Torricelli) at the last minute to put John Edwards on top, do you?

This is not without precedent. Remember Tom Eagleton.

Thanks.

O'Neill points out Kerry no hero.

Matthews gets irritated and demands that Naval terms used. (Chris flustered).

O'Neill takes issue with the "two tours" phrasing.

John Hurley, silver haired gent I saw on Fox yesterday is on, too, for the defense. Hope Hurley tells the "Kerry went to Cambodia with Navy SEALS" story again.

Matthews giving much more time to Hurley. Matthews will interrupt O'Neill and right now is ignoring him.

Matthews demanding to know how Kerry received the medals.

O'Neill explaining Kerry put himself in for these things.

McGreevey may have had a sexual harassment suit filed against him today by the man he had the relationship with.

ABC was reporting that earlier.

The election laws in Jersey have something to do with it.
They don't think McGreevey will get re-elected. So they are trying to pull another Lautenberg, possibly.

THEN there is the possibility that they are trying to take attention away from Kerry getting busted in his Vietnam lies.

Matthews tells O'Neill to compare Kerry to Bush's service in Vietnam.

Lord.

He tells O'Neill he's a Republican from Texas.

Well, case closed!

Aha! O'Neill says "I'm not a Republican from Texas. That simply is not true" (John, after this, you SHOULD BE).

Chris after O'Neill explains more says "So that's why you're mad at him", like this is all personal spite.

O'Neill is worth it.

Chris is so silly when he acts like he has facts when he does not and refuses at first blush to be swayed.

Hurley feels for the first time in days that he has the upper hand and is in friendly territory and sounds stronger.

O'Neill responds with more facts...

McGreevey wasn't up for reelection this year. If he resigns before election, the dem-appointed replacement faces this year's election. Resigning after the election gives the replacement a year to serve (up until next year's election) without having to run..
