James Carville was a Marine!

So? So was Ron Dellums, Clayton Lonetree, Zell Miller, Ollie North and ME!

I am not proud of Carville, but please don't advertise that fact about Carville, it shames the name "Marine".

It was that personal and that hateful.

It was. I've watched Hardball off & on for several years. I have never, ever seen Chris Matthews come close to what he did last night. Ever.

I always thought Matthews was from San Francisco, for more than one reason.

My father, brother and uncle feel the same way.

My comment about Carville was in response to don't Dems ever go into the military. His was the first name that came to mind. I could have used Daschle's USAF 3 year stint.

Chris Matthews was unlike anything I have ever seen, even for him

Don't know the answer to your Hurley question, but I posted last night that I had never seen Chris be so nasty.

As to Hurley, I saw him for the first time on Wednesday. My understanding is he's been with Kerry from the beginning though. When I saw him Wednesday, he was on Fox and it was the first effort by the Kerry camp to explain the Cambodia problem. Hurley was the first one to say (paraphrase) Well,he was there but it wasn't Christmas. He's not sure when but it was a mission with the SEALS.

I've the same impression. Chris, Carvell and others in the clique are terrified of what O'Neill has to say.

Hurley has known Kerry since both of their anti-war days.

I believe it's Hurley that's vouching for Kerry's non-appearance appearance in St. Louis in the '70's when they were talking about assassinating U.S. Senators.

Here's the URL for that article.

New Witness: Kerry Was Present at Dark Plot Meeting Group Debated and Voted Down Plan To Assassinate Senators

"Also Matthews claimed it was an old trick conservatives use to say that they didn't have a chance to speak."

Well, does Matthews think Howard Fineman is a liberal? After all, Fineman suggested on Imus recently that the Hardball producers should tell Matthews to shut up.

Oh--I remember the vet being called and being "asked" if he was SURE about his memory. Another vet who had placed Kerry at the meeting developed a faulty memory after getting a call from the Kerry campaign.

What I had forgotten was the name of the Kerry camp person who placed the calls.

Hurley's the "fixer"!

And I had just told my husband last night that the anti-war activities would probably get addressed eventually. I'll bet they will, too.

I don't think so. I think the left is desperate to smear the swift boad vets because internal polls are showing they are having an effect on Kerry's numbers. Chris just lost it last night. I believe it was fear and desperation that motivated Chris. He wants Kerry to win very badly. He acted like an idiot and didn't lay a glove on O'neil- in my opinion.

I could have written this.I think it is proof that Mathews knew he had not dented O'Neal. The Laura Bush deal was a carryover from Wed. He is in the habit of pontificating a theory hoping it will become a line of attack for other shows. He pushes it for 2 or 3 nights then drops it when no one else picks up on it.

You're right. I was closely following that story at the time and knew about the pressure put on the vets who placed Kerry at the *Kansas City* meeting to change their minds.

I didn't remember his name off the top of my head. Kicking myself for not recognizing it the other day when I first laid eyes on him.

I wonder how well Hurley knows Scott Camil...

I happened to be watching the episode with a couple of older Vet Dems, and Chris Matthews' bias and insulting approach directed against O'Neill completely worked against his pro Kerry purposes with my Dem friends.

One even said Chris was acting just like some sort of agressive defense attorney who had no facts working for his client. They both went away convinced O'Neill was honest and Chris was not.

James Carville was a Marine!

One would NEVER know it by his current incarnation and behavior. Did he ever see combat or was he good enough at typing to stay behind the lines???

It got swept under the rug very quickly IIRC.

Now, I think the spin is that "Well, Kerry talked them out of assassinating them!"

Can it get any more absurd?

That's good to know.
I wonder how democrat veterans feel about this? Not the poltical aspectmind you, but Kerry's actions, attacks, and contradictions.

(Of course if persuades them to vote for BUSH--Welcome to the Fold Brothers!)

Some of those questions should have been thrown right back at Matthews. Have you voted for Repbulicans recently? Hmmmm?

What I thought was bizarre was Matthews claiming that O'Neill spoke for 20 minutes

And that was after he accused O'Neill of being a dreaded "Republican" and O'Neill said he was not and Chris made him list who he had voted for. When the time issue came up, Matthews capped it with "That's a particarly conservative trick, by the way, to claim you haven't had a chance to speak".

I think at that point I realized Chris had crossed into a realm I had never witnessed before. He was calling John O'Neill a liar (not that he hasn't done that before--but his attitude, clear anger and apparent insanity were becoming more overt by the minute after that). When he ended the whole segment with "I think John Kerry has done more for this country than I or THIS PRESIDENT" that was it for me. Boycott back in force. I was only watching yesterday to see O'Neill. No surprise Chrissy knew he would not be able to handle him himself and brought in Kerry's fixer.

(for those who mock Chris for joining the Peace Corps and avoiding Vietnam as if he should own up to it, don't bother--he DOES--he is proud he joined it to avoid Vietnam and says so, but he thinks that every other man who did not got to Vietnam had the same motivation and nothing will convince him otherwise. He flat out says as if it is fact that GWB joined the guard to avoid Vietnam "everbody knows that" he'll say)
