Perhaps military service is now the last bastion for cowards who want their past to be off-the-table.
Are military records a relevant issue in a president's race?

"How in the H*ll did he leave before he served his full year?"
That's a good question. Anyone know about this or was I mistaken in his length of service in country?
So, I asked this question, on the bush country.org. site. Of, a couple of good vets who despise kerry, too, over there. I asked how a man could get 3 purple hearts, 1 bronze star, and 1 silver medal in the space of four mos. in active duty. Is that common or happens often? So far they haven't come back to me, now you say some of your friends did get a lot of medals --- BUT - they had to stay the whole year... Which seems more like a real case scenario.
My father was in Korea and he has a Purple Heart. None of this band-aid crap. He was in the hospital, bedridden for 9 weeks with is right foot sewn to his left calf so that the skin graft would take.

Hey, wer are heading down! DU must be voting now.
Kerry's mother, Rosemary, born to a prominent Boston 'Brahmin' (Blueblood) family, Forbes, old money and well-connected, family of Cape Cod, Ma. So, that the Kennedy's were neighbors with the Forbes, and so that kerry could emulate the guy he has initials from, go to war and play hero. And tell the politicians, how he wanted to play it. So, he gets to ask for favors and special circumstances, because of the family influence, Get it?
According to the doctor who treated him for his 1st one, he said he was in a firefight, but the enlisted guys who were there with him in the clinic/hospital said he wasn't. IE Kerry is a liar
I'm more concerned about why a soldier that volunteered to serve in Vietnam would be questioned in this way
It's because he was the one who made a big deal of it. By the way, did you know that Senator Kerry served in Viet Nam ? He invited this trouble on himself. It's the only thing he has to run on.
We are actually discussing whether a man who volunteered to go to Vietnam, was decorated for his service, and since has spent 30 years of his life fighting for the rights of veterans, is as honorable and capable as our current president.
Fighting for the rights of veterans ? Gimmee a break. Was that what he was doing when he voted against the money to support our troops in Iraq ? (BTW veterans includes those who are currently on active duty)
Our current president is a man that did use his influence to get a position in the National Guard in order to avoid combat in Vietnam, cannot account for nearly a year of that time when he did not report for duty, and who has now made dramatic cuts to veteran benefits.
You've been brainwashed by the Dem talking points. None of what you said is true.
Begone troll.
Please stop the lunacy. If military service mattered, Dole would be president.
Don't compare Bush and Kerry, compare Bush to Clinton and Kerry to Dole.
Lincoln, FDR, Clinton - take your pick.
PLEASE USE KERRY'S STATEMENT AGAINST HIM:
This is what Kerry said:
When the World War II veteran ran as the Republican presidential nominee against Bill Clinton in 1996, Dole said, Kerry maintained that Dole's war record "didn't mean anything. It shouldn't make any difference in the campaign." Dole said that Kerry was "probably right" on that point.
Dole said he'd sent word to Kerry through a mutual acquaintance.
