BACKSTORY
April 4, 2003
Kevin McCabe, deputy commissioner of the states labor department, was arrested last week on charges of reckless driving, speeding, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
A close associate of Gov. Jim McGreevey, McCabe was pulled over in East Brunswick at 1:40 a.m. on April 4 when a member of the East Brunswick DWI Task Force noticed McCabes late model green Mercury weaving in and out of the left-hand lane.
The car was clocked at 69 mph on Route 18, even after McCabe had past a posted 45 mph speed limit sign, according to the arresting officer, Sgt. Allan Quercia.
When McCabe was pulled over, the officer said he noticed the odor of alcohol on McCabes breath, and that his eyes were bloodshot and his speech was slurred.
According to the police report, McCabe swayed and staggered and couldnt perform several standard DWI tests at the traffic stop. McCabe submitted to and failed two breathalyzer tests taken at police headquarters. He had a 0.14 blood alcohol content, above the legal 0.10 limit.
McCabe said he had been to a party in honor of Labor Commissioner Albert Kroll and to a New Brunswick bar afterward. He claimed that he had had two glasses of wine with sandwiches before 9 p.m., almost five hours before he was stopped on suspicions of DWI.
Dubbed a member of the "Woodbridge Mafia" that McGreevey took with him when he went to Trenton last year, McCabe has had an association with the governor most of his adult life.
McCabe, 30, started his career as an aide and chauffeur to McGreevey when he was mayor of Woodbridge.
A high school graduate, McCabe served as McGreeveys chief of staff and was also appointed as a code enforcement supervisor over the townships licensed code officials.
McGreevey had a closet in his suite of offices in the Woodbridge Municipal Building revamped into a workspace for McCabe even though it wasnt near the department that McCabe supervised.
The governor said at the time that he needed quick proximity to McCabe because he relied heavily on his advice.
McCabe served as Woodbridge Democratic Municipal Chairman before McGreevey whisked him away when he was sworn in as governor last year.
McCabe was appointed to the deputy commissioner of labor post upon his arrival in Trenton at a salary of $114,900..
Other members of the "Woodbridge Mafia"-- longtime McGreevey associates who have roots back in his Woodbridge administration-- include State Treasurer John McCormac and former Chief of Staff Gary Taffet.
McCabe could not be reached for comment.

Brings new meaning to being "in the closet."
I wonder if they were "in the closet," too (smirk).
Atos
A high school graduate? Wow, McGayvey must use different credentials for his "positions".

Boy is this just too funny! He kept this guy in his "closet", gee I wonder how long this person has spent on McGreedy's staff?????
Pantry?
Oh.
I thought you said panty.
LOL.
He seems to have the need to have prospective sexual partners close by at all times.
If I am right, it is quite possible that he attacked the Israeli guy.
This story just gets weirder and weirder.
Yeah, like the homeland security guy Cipel's position between the sheets qualified him for the job.
Looks like the Trentonian could use a copy editor.
The question is, what did they do in that closet?
McGay is seriously disturbed. His chronic condition might make Johns Hopkins put back homosexuality on the list of mental disorders that Dr John Money removed few years back.
McGay might also be priapic, and always in need of "relief."
I don't doubt he attacked Cipel in a priapic moment.
I don't know about the closet guy but some newspapers are reporting that McGay forcibly performed o/s on Cipel.
Don't believe it. What really happened is that McG accompanied Cipel into the Statehouse urinals when McGay accidentally slipped and fell.
In one of those crazy, unforseen situations, somehow McGay's mouth landed on Cipel's private parts.
Now McGay was so stunned, his mouth locked on Cipel's privates and he couldn't let go no matter how hard he tried.
McGay just kept trying and trying, but his mouth simply would not release Cipel's privates.
Cipel---a poet, sailor, and PR man--was too politically correct to ask McGay to let go of his privates.
Finally help arrived when McG's aide came in to use the urinal.
The aide helpfully held Cipel down while McGay finished unwrapping his mouth from Cipel's privates.
And that's what really happened.
LOL!!!!
It's dreary here in my part of VA as well - so the chuckles from NJ are greatly appreciated!!!
glad I kept reading - was just about to make the identical observation!
That way, you have more time to produce the toxic waste we crave!
Send more!
LOL!!!!
Nothing personal, because I know there are good, decent conservatives in NJ and NY, but one of the leading reasons we left Delaware was because of the huge influx of the other type from NY & NJ into DE.
It would not surprise me to find out that McGreevey and company either have a place or fiends with places in Rehoboth Beach, of both political parties.
In his press conference McGreevey never named Cipel as the man with whom he had an affair...some of his aides used his name in reference to blackmail...what if this guy from Woodbridge is the boy toy and Cipel is really straight and was harassed? This guy McCabe was 18 and fresh out of high school...very vulnerable to McGreevey's advances IMHO...also he may be falling apart and driving drunk because of what he fears will come out.
I'm guessing his "advice" was delivered on his knees with his mouth wide open.
McGreevey had a closet in his suite of offices in the Woodbridge Municipal Building revamped into a workspace for McCabe
