The parents of a 5-year-old girl who was shot to death by her stepfather after he mistook her for a burglar placed their surviving two children with relatives while child welfare workers investigate the living conditions at their home.(snip)
The parents shared a bed with their three young daughters because the only other bedroom in the house is rented by another man, friends said. Police said Alejandra may have gotten up to use the bathroom and was returning to her parents' bed when she was mistaken for a burglar. (snip)

Agreed. Something very strange here. Even half asleep, I don't see how anyone could mistake a 5 year old child for a burglar.

I think the "burgerler" would have to have been pretty hard up to burgerlize a family like this.
Sorry. It's a sensitive issue with me. I teach firearm safety/marksmanship and every ONE of these idiots hurts the whole. He should thank his lucky stars I am not the DA.

Not making excuses for him. The idiot may have tried a non lethal leg shot on a suspected burglar through a closed door. Yesterday there were comments to indicate that he did shoot through a closed or nearly closed door.
I guess never learned the SECOND most important rule of firearms. KNOW your TARGET and what is BEHIND it!

Awww, couldn't we just shoot him? In the dark, at a russle, with no warning, kablooey! Sorry, this is a nightmare for this person, but it is morans like this who give ammo to the gun grabbers. Of course they also pump ammo into innocent children.
Better still, he's a prime candidate for the plastic shredder Saddam used. There is NO EXCUSE for this. None.
I haven't followed this story, but I don't believe the reason given!
The guy doesn't impress me as ever being a student of firearm safety. He's purely in survival mode. The whole family sleeping in one bedroom while renting another room to somebody who obviously worried them.
Yeah, the clown obviously has a few screws loose. What the hell were they doing having kids if they could not support them? Again, no excuses for this.

I agree. Most 5 year olds are about 42-46 inches tall. Mighty short for a burglar.
