About 750,000 people in Central Florida remained without power for the 4th night since Charley struck, and utility officals said restoring power in some locations is taking longer than expected.....

the national media is completely focused on the damage near Ft. Myers, but the situation up here has been shockingly severe. I've seen things that rival or surpass the damage down there. Daytona and the east coast got hit pretty hard, too. I guess the images of the mobile home park down there is better TV.

The good news is that 800,000 were without power this morning and since then 50,000 people have had power restored.

Yes, "NotJustAnotherPretyFace" and I have elderly parents in Lake Wales (Polk County) that still don't have power or telephone service. They have to drive 15 or 20 miles to buy gas and groceries. My father reported to me that the only gas left was premium.

The news media has almost completely ignored this area.

Last night, chatted with my sister in Tampa. She works for Publix.

Over 100 stores are having to throw out tons of food - it's all spoiling. They can't sell it to anyone.

The citrus crop has been smashed - billions of dollars of produce gone. When we used to live there, anytime there was a hard freeze, the prices of fruit juice and procude rocketed up - but the price of concentrates dropped.

The death tool's climbing, because the relief crews are finally cutting their way into the communities. We had the same thing two years ago in KY; an ice storm caused similar isolation.

We're most liekly going to get secondary injuries and deathes in the aftermath - heat casualties and disease.

You highlighted an area that city and emergency planners normally do not consider in their disaster plans - what to do with shut-ins when they can no longer be taken care of at home.

I got power again, but it comes and goes.
I heard that one of the reason why there is no gas is because the Taft gas distribution plant is out of power and the local tanker drivers can get gas pump onto there tankers. The gas/fuel is being truck from Tampa Bay and the Cape area(s), and the local tanker drivers can-not get permit(s) and ID's to go those distribution plants and truck gas to Central Florida gas stations. The local(Central Florida Truckers) are out of work.

My goodness, what will this country do when we are attacked on a large scale. And....we will be if John Kerry becomes President. Have some courage and backbone fools. The young boys ans girls that are protecting your sorry butts in Iraq endure unbearable heat and life threatening attacks every day. What a bunch of weak sisters you are. The key to survival and support is to help and share with one another, not depend on somebody to be your man-servant. The authorities are doing all they can!

'can-not' get gas pump..
It's hard on those Tampa Bay/Cape tanker drivers, we have a ton of drivers that can help ship fuel, but the permit(s),IDs,etc..is stopping them. Alot of Gas station have power, but no gas . Alot of people can't get to work because they don't have gas for vehicle.

Fox, it's not me. Florida is where alot of older people retired. Here's the real deal in alot of Florida.
1st, The heat,No water, No Power (Day 5), Stores ran-out of Food, No Gas, No phone, No ICE, Raw Sewage coming out of streets, because the treatment plants don't have power, Many ATMs not working, Banks closed, roads blocked, etc...

The Federal elected-officals are MIA (U.S. Congressman,Senators,etc..)

The radio(most of the time)stations are playing music and other programs. You have hospitals max-out, supplies low...

I am on the front line (eastern side of Orlando) where Charley hit hardest in this area (100+mph winds) many, many people/families without apartments/homes and no money..

Veterans like myself are helping these poor/old/childrens survive this situation. vet out (Been in the heat)

Direct result of radio consolidation. The stations are just relays for satellite programming. There's nobody there to do public service/emergency brodcasts.

You have my deepest sympathy. I know what it was like in Houston when we were out of power for a week - miserable.

Fortunately we had a gas stove, so I cooked everything that was fresh or frozen - and we were able to keep going off of canned and dried stuff.

Hurricanes are no fun.

There are two radio stations that are providing SOME updates, information(s),location(s) of places to go and call, they are WFLA 540 AM, & WBDO 580 AM, but they are now playing/boardcasting Rush L and Clark Howard in a time of a State of Emergency and Federal DISASTER zone. What happen to the old E.B.N. (Emergency Boardcast Network) that we (The taxpayers payed for?). It should be UP and RUNNING, but like I stated our U.S. Congressional people (Both parties) are MIA !!!!
My Congressman Tom Feeney(R) is MISSING !
