A good firewall will defeat anything except a massive distributed DOS attack. Setting that up would require launching a trojan to infect unsuspecting internet users.

"A good firewall will defeat anything"

Precisely the type of thinking that gets so many corporate computers rooted. These days, the computers are left to be as insecure as ever with the solution du jour being, "stick a [security appliance] in front of it and you'll be fine". Guess what - it a'int fine.

"Setting that up would require launching a trojan to infect unsuspecting internet users."

Why? There are millions of compromised systems sitting on wide open broadband connections just waiting for someone to issue commands as the clueless owner wonders why his internet connection seems slow all of a sudden.

A “Good Firewall” is only an inconvenience. I have a public IP, and one night, I was up at 2 AM (I am a Programmer who was a Hacker long enough ago that the statutes have expired…) and my public Network lights up with activity that I am not causing, so I log on to the Server, some guy has gotten through the hardware firewall (not hard) and is port scanning my server, I fire up some software I have, back trace his IP through a couple of remote controlled computers, and find out his IP is from the old Soviet block. I started a scan of his home IP, and he shut down his computer faster than you can say OOPS!!! (then I blocked all the IP Addresses belonging to his ISP)

The point is, if these guys want to get caught, just attack where people will be watching… (That’s a Dare, go on Attack the GOP during their Convention, and you WILL be caught), So come on guys (and gals) show how sneaky you are attack a big heavily watched site, make a name for your selves, and help us get you off the (net) streets.

I was a smart Hacker, if there is such a thing, because: 1) I never damaged anything 2) I never bragged about where I’d been, and 3) I decided on my own it was not a fun game without having to be caught.

Cheers
