As San Jose prepares to rebid a botched $8 million contract that favored Cisco Systems equipment for its new downtown City Hall, City Manager Del Borgsdorf on Tuesday said he has launched a nationwide search for legal and technical experts to help keep the process clean.
In reporting to the council on the latest from the technology scandal, however, Borgsdorf provided no new details about expected construction delays or cost overruns to the $388 million project. And not one council member, or Mayor Ron Gonzales, questioned him about the problems.
Borgsdorf said only that city officials were attempting to ``restore the construction timeline'' and that potential cost overruns could not yet be computed. A city audit released last week found collusion and favoritism in the award of the contract to install Cisco network and phone equipment in the building.
Since then, city officials have publicly remained vague about the most serious financial consequences of the failed contract because the delays could leave the city open to costly legal disputes with its contractors.
In private, Borgsdorf briefed the council on the expected delays and cost overruns last week. Council members said Borgsdorf did not provide specifics but indicated the financial effect on the city from the botched deal could be ``significant.''

I just heard on the radio that they JUST broke ground on the new terminal for the airport. That's wonderful. After all this time, they are FINALLY getting somewhere. Good that it would do now since the dotcom bascially went BUST 4 years ago.
Oh yeah, and Ron Gonzales' pet dream of bring BART down? Which the voters of this area voted for the tax? Well guess what? Due to the tax shortfall, to make it a true reality, we need ANOTHER tax for it. Whoohoo. :-/
While I have no intention of leaving this area since my family is here and it is still...realitively speaking, a good place to live (and with no diploma, can't do much at the moment), I am getting the sneaky suspicion that I wouldn't mind leaving either.
Tough choice......they all apply.
