Jane Pauley Reveals Bipolar Disorder

Former NBC network news magazine anchor Jane Pauley reveals she's bipolar in her autobiography.

Jane Pauley

Pauley writes in "Skywriting: A Life Out of the Blue," coming out Tuesday, that she takes lithium to control her mood swings.

She said the problem started in 2001 when she came down with a bad case of hives. She took steroids and had a rare reaction that set off the bipolar disorder.

Pauley said she spent nearly three weeks in the hospital under an assumed name.

Excerpts of "Skywriting" have been published in People magazine.

Pauley, 53, begins hosting her new syndicated talk show, "The Jane Pauley Show," later this month.

Interesting handle you have there. Exactly what grudge DO you hold against former President William McKinley?

I have been depressed for two days...don't ask. But, your post made me laugh out loud. Thank you, thank you, thank you; I can get back on with my life now! Hold the lithium!

Just one question: Can you trust someone to report the news truthfully while they're on drugs?

Just say no.

Is there anybody in the media business who doesn't have some kind of mental health issue?

-----------

Provides a great excuse to land a profitable book deal describing "How I Overcame (fill in the blank) Disorder".

Exactly what grudge DO you hold against former President William McKinley?

Well, almost.

Charles Guiteau shot James Garfield; Leon Czolgosz, William McKinley.

Being married to Trudeau explains the decline of his wife. He is the one that should be on lithium.

Are you kidding? Mental illness seems to have become some type of badge of honor these days. I've never seen so many people acting proud of their latest diagnosis and the number of meds they take. Hey, I've got more emotional problems than you, nyah nyah nyah!

My instincts tell me the above line is a lie.

I'll bet she's been mentally ill for years but finally had an episode that was so obvious that it couldn't be explained away.

And they think I'm going to take the opinions of a mentally ill person seriously?

Uh, her perception of reality is, uh, not accurate. And uh, her opinions about things are, uh, opinions out of a mind that is not well.
