Dear David,

Today marks the end of the dishonest and disgusting smear campaign against John Kerry and his crewmates from Vietnam. This morning on the front page of the Washington Post, one of the central figures in the effort to distort John Kerry's military service was completely discredited.

The group behind this smear campaign calls itself "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth." But the truth is the last thing they are interested in.

President Bush refuses to condemn this group. He wants them to do his dirty work. But this effort to distract attention from the issues that matter most has failed.

This morning, John Kerry said he learned an important lesson in Vietnam: "When you're under attack, the best thing to do is turn your boat into the attacker." Today he took these lessons to heart, knocked down these charges, and made a firm commitment to the American people that the lies about his military service will not stop him from fighting for affordable health care, good-paying jobs, and keeping America secure.

This doesn't mean that these blatantly false attacks won't continue -- the Bush-Cheney campaign is desperate and has no record to run on. But it does mean that we are not going to let them distract us from letting people know about John Kerry's plan to make America stronger at home and respected in the world.

Read the Washington Post article:

http://www.johnkerry.com/article

Read John Kerry's statement from his speech at the International Association of Firefighters Convention in Boston this morning:

Over the last week or so, a group called Swift Boat Veterans for Truth has been attacking me. Of course, this group isn't interested in the truth -- and they're not telling the truth. They didn't even exist until I won the nomination for president.

But here's what you really need to know about them. They're funded by hundreds of thousands of dollars from a Republican contributor out of Texas. They're a front for the Bush campaign. And the fact that the president won't denounce what they're up to tells you everything you need to know -- he wants them to do his dirty work.

Thirty years ago, official Navy reports documented my service in Vietnam and awarded me the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts. Thirty years ago, this was the plain truth. It still is. And I still carry the shrapnel in my leg from a wound in Vietnam.

As firefighters you risk your lives every day. You know what it's like to see the truth in the moment. You're proud of what you've done -- and so am I.

Of course, the president keeps telling people he would never question my service to our country. Instead, he watches as a Republican-funded attack group does just that. Well, if he wants to have a debate about our service in Vietnam, here is my answer: 'Bring it on.'

I'm not going to let anyone question my commitment to defending America -- then, now, or ever. And I'm not going to let anyone attack the sacrifice and courage of the men who saw battle with me.

And let me make this commitment today: their lies about my record will not stop me from fighting for jobs, health care, and our security -- the issues that really matter to the American people.

Thank you,

Mary Beth Cahill Campaign Manager

Or leave others to do it and then return when the coast is clear and take credit for it.

How did Kerry save him when there was no enemy fire? It was Kerry that put Rassman in the water in the first place! Its common courtesy that he went back to pick him up! lol

Kerry swings and misses a straw man. The crack-up is happening sooner than I thought.

Kerry is in big trouble.

The CBS poll announced today indicates that among registered voters, Kerry's support among veterans has dropped by 9% since the convention. What do you suppose caused that? SBVT!

Send them a few bucks.

Now I'm wondering if that "shoulder" surgery F'n had a few months back wasn't actually a Shrapnel Insertion procedure. :o)

At some point the American public is going to get real sick over all his whining. You can't stick out your chest, act all macho, and say "Bring it on" and then cry like a little wussy French schoolboy when people do. People eventually see you as the weak, arrogant, pathetic, little eurotrash piece of scum you really are.

OK, I will watch it. But I'd like to know a little bit about Mr. Rassman. Why was he on your boat? How many other SF folks were on yours or any of the other boats? What SF unit was he a member of? What was his job?

Believe me or not, But I happen to think the Swiftboat vets have struck a raw nerve because the Demorats are still SEETHING about the defeat of MAX Cleland. They are stark mad about it and if you keep that in mind their responses are more understandable. They are going off the deep end. I've said it before. Thank God for Sweet Georgia. I love Georgia for what they did in 2002 not to mention Newt in 94 (biggest political event in USA since election of Reagan).

IF republicans had any cajones they would start to point out that John Kerry is despicably attacking hundreds of war heroes, his supposed "band of brothers," and that Kerry obviously has zero respect for any veterans who dare not support him. Apparently ony leftist vets need apply.

They didn't even exist until I won the nomination for president.

LOL! Do they actually listen to the stupid statements he makes? Of course they existed before he was nominated!

His stupidity continues when he attacks the fact that they are funded by a rich Republican fronting for President Bush. Can you say, Soros? What an idiot he is, and a deceitful lying traitor to his country to boot.

I got one of these from a Kerry sychophant.

Mt reply:

I have visited the Kerry web site several times. The last time was to see how John Kerry was responding to the findings of a Senate Report regarding the charges made for fromer Ambassador Joseph Wilson's charges that President Bush lied about Iraq's attempted purchases of yellow cake from Niger. As you may know, the Senate Committee and a similar British panel found that Iraq was indeed trying to buy yellowcake. In short, the Joe Wilson lied on national TV and in interviews where he charged the President with lying.:

This must have disturbed the Kerry Campaign, as they proceeded to remove the link of Wilson's web page (restorehonesty.com) that was paid for by the Kerry campaign. In fact, not only did they remove the reference to Wilson, it was as though he dropped off the face of the earth, because the Kerry campaign removed any and all references to Wilson to the point that a search of Kerry-Edwards had NO reference what so ever to Wilson. Gone, as though he never existed.:

I am going to tell you something else. You may have forgotten. I was a US Marine. My father was a Marine. My brother-in-law was a Marine. Each of us spent time in Vietnam. My dad from 1964 through 1968. My brother-in-law about the same time, including the battle of Khe Sahn. And I was at Saigon in April 1975.:

Having said that, you should know that John Kerry's activities during the 1970's with Jane Fonda and Vietnam Veterans Against the War was reprehensible, and dishonest. His conduct, including false testimony using non-veterans and people that had not even set foot in Vietnam qualifies him as a traitor in my book.:

And that is before these Swift Vets made any charges.:

Many of us reading about Kerry's qualifications to be a presidential nominee had pretty much forgotten about his past. And no thanks to the media, when he did make Vietnam his main qualification, many of us had forgotten his anti-American actvities.:

One thing in particular that did get my attention was a story Kerry claimed to be life-changing. In his own words, it formed the basis for the rest of his life. It was a story he began telling in the 1970's, and one he has repeated many times, including on the floor of the Senate.:

The story is about Kerry's being in Cambodia of Christmas Eve 1968. A place he claims helped shape his anti-Vietnam mindset. The same mindset he used to testify of widespread attrocities committed by US forces in Vietnam. :

Kerry's story was pretty convincing to the unintiated. He claimed that night to have been shot at by South Vietnamese forces celebrating Christmas. He also said he was engaged by Khmer Rouge. All the while Richard Nixon was in the White House, with the full knowledge of Kerry's 'just following his orders.' Kerry said many times this memory was seared - SEARED in his mind.:

To the normal person this is a pretty convincing story. But it is pure BS.:

Nixon did not take office until January 1969:

The Khmer Rouge - Cambodian guerillas - did not fight a battle until Easter 1972:

Vietnamese are mostly Buddist - they don't celebrate Christmas.:

And now that Kerry is caught in a big lie at the core of his entire Vietnam experience, nobody, nobody remembers that ever happeneing. Not his Band of Brothers. And not the same men that served in his same unit, Coastal Division 11, many of which are now the Swift Vets for Truth.:

Last week the Kerry Campaign was forced to recant this major life-changing story. It has since been revised a a few times, and now is based on 'several' forays into Cambodia in January and February 1969.:

What you may take as a win for Kerry in the WaPo isn't a victory or vindication at all. That's becuase the media is in the bag for Kerry. :

Why you ask? Because even though I am not prepared to argue point-for-point the charges these guys are making, one big point they already made in their book, is that Kerry would fill out the official reports - so called after-action reports. And in doing so, the official record would be written in Kerry's own words.:

But let's not go there.:

I have seen Kerry and the media lie about events leading into Iraq. Things the president said. Things others said about the president. And where the truth is found.:

Bottom line: I have seen nothing, nothing, indicating that the president knowingly lied about Iraq or any other issue for that matter. What I have seen are distortions and outright lies from the left. These start with Michael Moore, and run to Teddy Kennedy, Howard Dean, and end right at Kerry's feet - but especially Terry McAuliffe.:

In summary, my entire family, that means cousins, brothers, sisters, sons, and my wife, are turned off by the lies and distortions put out as truth by media and the left (which is really the better way to describe the democrats today than as a party). The same left that spit on vets returning from Vietnam, The same left that cut our defense to the bone during the Cold War. The same left that opposed and ridiculed Ronald Reagan, the same way they have tried to portray president Bush today.:

They say Washington DC is a world of its own. I don't know about that. But I hope you are not disappointed November 3rd. Because I am told that many expect Bush to be beaten handilly.:

Chances are good the day after this election, many people, possibly you, will look in exasperation when everyone you talk to says they voted for Kerry. :

Nonsense. The book has just hit the shelves and is #1 on Amazon and already #3 on the NYT best sellers list.

It's JUST BEGINNING.
