If a man...especially a veteran...can't defend HIMSELF from facts, how in h*ll can he defend a nation against terrorists who want to KILL us?

It's amazing that the NYT and others make "connections" between the men who contributed $$ to the Swift Boat vets and Bush because they are Republicans and know the president.

Since when is it unusual for conservatives to give funding to groups who are opposed to the Democrats? Is that the left's new tactics?

The links between MoveOn.org and the DNC are clear and direct links. And yet the MSM won't report on them.

Is anybody sure that Phillips and Juan Williams are not clones? I'm waiting for my Sunday morning "fix" of Brit's slamming Juan, "You're WRONG...AGAIN!"

Bob Kerrey has his own cloud of suspicion to deal with:

F&F: William Rood, the new Kerryite defender, says there was enemy fire coming from both banks of the river.

[Not sure exactly were Rood was in that incident. But, didn't Kerry's own handwritten diaries contradict his later 'enemy fire' commentaries? I think all these guys are relying on 35 year old memories, which are not always reliable. None of their stories are 100% accurate, so somewhere in the middle of both sides is the truth. The actual truth probably will never be known because the only records are sketchy documentation, Kerry's memoirs/diaries, and Kerry's video---posed later.]

GAG: Sasha Burns, Kerry defender/mouthpiece, is on FoxNews. (She brings her own kneepads.) Malzberg is also on, taking her to task. He won't let her interrupt him. (Wow, go man, go!). Malzberg got his message across. Burns wants to talk about the issues---Malzberg, responds that all Kerry wants to talk about is his VietNam experience.

[Malzberg is the first one I've seen who actually is effective in shutting Burns down.]

Kerry hasn't subjected himself to being questioned.

Neither he nor his Band of Brothers has permitted themselves to be interviewed or questioned.

It is interesting that the new guy, Rood, is hiding behind his managing editor. Rood supposedly didn't want to come forward but had to in order to set the truth straight. Last evening on Obermann (MSNBC), Rood's managing editor, not Rood, was mouth-piecing for Rood.

On reflection, I am cutting Rood slack. His story fully supports what the Swiftees have said about the Silver Star incident, in that Kerry did not attack a numerically superior enemy. The smokescreen of raising an irrelevant difference of recollection regarding the single VC has drawn the media in. Rood appears to have contributed his version of events under pressure from Kerry, and that may well piss him (Rood) off.

My sister who is a strong Republican called me yesterday to say the same thing.

She also said she's tired of the negative ads on both sides. I asked her which GOP ad was negative and she said all of them! I told her I'd seen every single ad and didn't think that even ONE of them was negative.

I tried to explain that going after Kerry's voting record and his past words regarding Iraq and the WOT, etc., was EXACTLY what the campaign should be about.

Have you seen any ads you'd consider at all negative (by the GOP)?

The Vets will not be presented as "sympathetic" figures, they will be attacked personally, not on the merits of their service or the accuracy of their information. This is the second time around these guys to be hung out to dry.

Whether presented as sympathetic or not, they come off to most viewers as credible. Polling proves that.

You put your finger on it. Kerry won't face the Swift Boat vets himself. He doesn't dare because he can't face questions. Since he's come up with a hundred different lies about Cambodia, to name just one incident, he'd have trouble acting credible when asked direct questions. How to keep those myriad lies straight? How to explain the nanonuances? Mais ouis, tres difficile!

[Bob Kerrey has his own cloud of suspicion to deal with:]

That was sort of my point. The logical guests such as Kerrey (Bob) aren't willing to talk publicly on this issue.....they only write articles then hide!

All Bush needs to do is call a press conference and announce that "My oppenent was for 527 ads before he was against them. His silence during the 62 million dollars worth of ads broadcast against me by 527 groups contrasts sharply to his outbursts of the last two days against ads targeting him. My position has been consistent and clear throughout. I hope Senator Kerry will join me in rejecting all 527 ads."

By the GOP, no.....my mom tries to defend Bush to her church bingo friends and is at a loss...last night one of these friends blamed Bush for attacking a REAL war hero...I gave her a few talking points, but she is not a very good debater, especially at her age.....I told her to get new friends and her reply was...*They are hard to come by, they are all dying off*...LOL

You guys crack me up. Muskie meltdown indeed. Can we anticipate Hill's triumphant coronation at that point? The press will have to switch daily talking points fast. Let's see. Kerry will decide, after RATs give him the hook in private, that he's suffering from not enough windsurfing time, or bicycling, or skiing, or snow boarding and is dropping out. He can't say he's sick. That's too...loserish sounding. But it might get RATs sympathy votes. One place he should avoid if Hill calls up for a private meeting is Fort Marcy Park.

Sympathetic wasn't really the word I wanted to use. It was one of those situations when you reach for a word and you can't quite find it. I didn't mean it in the pity sense or feeling sorry for them.
It was a term of convenience. Perhaps I should have used an analogy such as
About as welcome as lepers at a debutante ball?
Suggestions are welcomed.

The Swiftees are not going to go away. I see no way to resolve the different versions of events, either Kerry admits he lied, or he withdraws. At some point, the evidence is going to be so well known by the public (media efforts to keep it buried being ineffective), that the media will have to report the facts. If that cat comes out of the bag, Kerry is burnt toast. He can avoid the spectacle by withdrawing -- those are the only two options I see. Cat out of the bag, and the people vote with full information, or withdraw. Kerry's choice.
