I haven't seen the actually text of Rood's statement
But according to this article .. it seems Rood said that it wasn't Kerry who beached his boat
The Boston Globe said it was Kerry that beached his boat and rec'd a silver star for it
I haven't studied the incident in detail, but think there are two separate beaching incidents.
I also haven't read Rood's story all the way through, but none of the snippets I saw include or intimate the key phrase in Kerry's Silver Star citation, "attacked a numerically superior enemy while under intense fire."
It is entirely possible that "Rood also confirms that it was another of three swift boats touring together that day that actually beached at the ambush site, not Kerry's boat. It was Doug Reese and other troops, not Kerry, who disembarked, killed some Viet Cong and captured some weapons" is not inconsistent with Kerry beaching at some other time and/or location. The action took place over some length of the river.
