New book criticizes President (Buchanan again!)
Fort Worth Star- Telegram ^ | 8/23/2004 | David Kirkpatrick

Posted on 08/22/2004 10:29:33 AM PDT by sinkspur

Patrick Buchanan, the conservative commentator whose Republican primary challenge and divisive convention speech weakened the first President Bush's campaign for re-election in 1992, is publishing a book excoriating the second President Bush over the invasion of Iraq, just in time to grab a share of the limelight at another Republican convention.

In Where the Right Went Wrong, released late last week, Buchanan calls the invasion of Iraq "the greatest strategic blunder in 40 years, a mistake more costly than Vietnam. If prudence is the mark of a conservative, Mr. Bush has ceased to be a conservative," Buchanan wrote. The release of the book, which coincides with the Republican National Convention, gives Buchanan occasion to lay out his case on television and in book promotions just as the Bush campaign seeks to project an image of unity, reviving unhappy memories of the disruptive role Buchanan has played in the past.

"He has a following in conservative circles," said Paul Weyrich, a veteran conservative organizer. "It is not what it once was just because the religious right is not particularly enamored with him. But it is going to have an effect. In a very close election, criticism from anybody who is credible is going to have an effect."

In an interview, however, Buchanan said publishing a book during the campaign was the best way he knew to inject what he considers important ideas into the debate. "The reason I wanted it out now is, it addresses big issues that are not being addressed in this campaign: the massive and growing deficit, the disintegration of the culture and a Wilsonian foreign policy that means war ad infinitum," he said.

As far as Patsy is concerned, the "blunder" was that 1. We fought and defeated Arabs, and 2. We helped Israel in the process.

>>>One more time, the anti-semite tries to take down a Republican president.
What a self-serving a-hole!

First off, Pat's not an anti-semite, like that rightwingnut Joe Sobran. But Pat's book release opposing the war in Iraq doesn't help reelecting the President.

Just when I thought Pat had turned the corner, he comes out with this garbage. As Bob Dole said today, PJB will still be voting for PresBush.

Buchanan (aka Deepthroat) has been running a stealth campaign appealing to racists and xenophobes through a front organization he set up in Congressman Tancredo's name.

Buchanan put his own webmaster in to control the website and his sister Bay in as Chairman to control the business end.

They are fueling much of the anti-immigrant movement, as evidenced by the attempts of their supporters to hijack FreeRepublic via immigration threads.

As Confucius once said, the message and the messenger are two very different things, and one should never discard one on account of the other. One could take his title "where the right went wrong", and argue that being PC with Iraq war is where the deficiency has been.

pro-choice??? I am not too familiar with Buchanan but i was always under the impression he is a devout Catholic. I doubt he is pro-choice in any way. Do you have any verification of your claims?

Does Pat realize that when he says he would never vote for Kerry all he does is provide more votes for Kerry from the Buchanan smearers who go opposite on everything Buchanan writes.

"What a self-serving a-hole!"

What else has he ever been?

Let's face it...he makes a tidy living as a "conservative" who bashes conservatives, and helps weaken their campaigns. His career since 1992 has been an unbroken one of self-aggrandizement and shooting his alleged allies on the Right.

His game is clear...help with the victory of a Liberal Democrat, hope that he messes up the country like Hogan's Goat, they ride in on a white horse to "save" it.

His template is Reagan 1980. Unfortunately for Pat, he has neither the charisma nor the personality to pull it off. Furthermore, it's not 1980 anymore, which he fails to realize.

That's all you ever offer, ad hominem responses.

Tom Tancredo opposes all attempts to give amnesty to illegals. So does Pat Buchanan and so do I. In fact, 80% of Americans oppose amnesty. Wake up and get with America!

It's Luis, without the quotes.

And I don't shill for anyone.

Willie however, spends most of his waking hours advancing Unionists politics and the thoughts of America's best known anti-semite, Pat Buchanan.

Your Union dues help elect Democrats Willie...

Third boxcar, midnight train
Destination...Bangor, Maine.
Old worn out clothes and shoes,
I don't pay no union dues,
I smoke old stogies I have found
Short, but not too big around
I'm a man of means by no means
King of the road.

Pennsylvania needs a Maglev train

The reason I asked if you supported abortionist candidates is because that is a good indictator of someones conservatism or lack thereof.

As far as Buchanan, as I said above I am not that familiar with him, but when you try to paint anyone who believes in sovereignty as an 'anti-semite' or 'xenophobe', that is not a convincing arguement. From what I have read, you seem like an open-border 'internationalist' type.

How will that help America? As willie said, most Americans do not support this. the politicians have a 'disconnect' with the American people. see the recent thread about what happened when Asa Hutchinson came to CA and was booed, heckled, & shouted down by thousands of angry conservatives.

And what do you think about FTAA? do you want migrants from 34 countries swarming into the USA unfettered?

Of course Buchanan is opposed to the war in Iraq. It might have been good for the Jews.

Well, this book should get Buchanan helpful bookings on the Daily Show, Good Morning America, Larry King, Air America, Hardball, McNeil News Hour, and 60 Minutes, and relatively warm receptions in the New York and Los Angeles Times Book Reviews. And prominent placement on the front shelves at bookstores around the country. Congrats, Pat! You are cashing in on the Bush-bashing media gravy train.

Actually it seems that Buchanan believes in arab appeasment, just like he wrote how he thought America getting into World War II was a mistake.
