Novak was referring to the first purple heart, and a witness who was on the boat who is going to come forward to corroborate that there was no enemy fire. The guy, William Schachte is now a rear admiral, and he refutes Kerry's report. Two other guys (Patrick Runyon and William Zaldonis) on the boat sort of back up Kerry, and have said that Schachte wasn't there. He must have some good proof that he was there, and that will discredit Kerry and the other two.
In Unfit for Command, it says that Schachte was in charge of the mission and was on the boat and that Kerry was in Officer training. When Kerry fired a grenade at too close a range and got hit with shrapnel, Schachte berated Kerry for almost putting someone's eye out.

Wjuanie is the first that I have heard to outright call the "Swift Boat heroes" liars. IMO that is a legal term, not a political term.

It would also sear holes in your boat. This incident didn't.
You'd expect at least one or two of the injuries reported would have been gunshot wounds. None of them were.
Neither of them has said that there was enemy fire. One has said that he didn't know how kerry was injured. The other has said that he didn't even know that kerry was injured.
Since this incident has been described as a training mission for kerry, I think they're wrong about Schacte not being on the small boat. It makes no sense at all to be sending your green trainee out on the skimmer, on his own, while the training officer who's supervising him remains behind on the accompanying Swift.

Contrary to other comments posted, this is exactly how a veteran and especially an enlisted brown water squid would talk. My guess is that every news commentator out there doesn't even know what a shellback is, having never crossed the equater with the blue water Navy. I have been waiting for this since the SBVT's story first broke. The Navy that I have worked with has so much paper it is any wonder it stays afloat. There is bound to be binders of material to support the actual truth. Veterans love to talk war stories and under intense pressure of combat it is surprising how much detail is truly tatooed into the brain like carving images into stone. Lets wait and see what additional information comes forth.
Last night while John O'Neill was on Hannity and Colmes, Alan was spewing the Demonrat talking point that the Swiftees are lying about there being no enemy fire because the boats had documented damage.
O'Neill replied that the damage had been sustained the day before, but of course that didn't deter Alan from repeating it when the Washington Post guy came on in the next segment.
