Laura Bush, Dutiful Spouse And First Lady
Turkish Press ^ | AFP: 8/24/2004

WASHINGTON, Aug 24 (AFP) - Soft-spoken and self-effacing First Lady Laura Bush enjoys largely favorable ratings in the United States, where she projects a reassuring image compared to the somewhat more volatile Teresa Heinz Kerry, wife of Democrat John Kerry.

The 57-year-old former librarian and school teacher has made clear, since her arrival in the White House, her desire to remain in the shadow of her husband.

However, she has gradually gained confidence, particularly since the September 11, 2001 attacks, after which she was dubbed "consoler-in-chief."

Active in education issues, she has been involved in her husband's re-election campaign for several months now, aiming to present a softer image of George W. Bush.

She underscores the president's "toughness, his discipline, and his focus," but says her mission is also "to spread the word" about the qualities of the president's heart.

I don't admire very many people, but I DO admire Laura Bush!

Jim Scott, morning host on WLW 700 AM in Cincy, was absolutely effusive in praise of the first lady this morning.

(He also reported that the Bush Campaign has declared Tim Russert to be a 'persona non grata.')

She is all anyone could ask for in a First-Lady. The perfect class act.. Kerry should boot that bag of his to the curb and find a good Texas girl. But then again, he gets what he deserves, so I take that back... Keep her.

Bush's choice of Laura as his wife is indicative of the kinds of choices that he makes. Kerry and Bill Clinton's choice of a spouse also speaks volumes.

I so agree. I am proud to be an American, when I see Laura Bush in front of the cameras. She IS lovely! My husband finds her beautiful and gracious, as do our children.

Her steady, loving commitment to her husband, her sense of humor, and her flashing smile and laughing eyes--all of those qualities are so endearing.

She gave an interview on Fox News to Bill O'Reilly, and mentioned that her husband brings her a cup of coffee every morning...mine has done the same, over 34 years of marriage...just that small connection makes me smile!

Saw her interview on O'Reilly. What sublime classiness. Goes to show how little money can really buy for true, substantive style.

See that last picture. Darn, she is a pretty woman. Now that made me think of the pictures I just saw yesterday of Hillary! in Norway. LOL. Compare and contrast.

She has such classic beauty, poise and grace. AND she knows lamps aren't used as projectiles.

(He also reported that the Bush Campaign has declared Tim Russert to be a 'persona non grata.'

Tim should be the first in a long line of media varmints to be officially termed that. Any particular reason cited as to why?

The radio said that Tim was out-of-bounds for "going after" his republican guests rather than just interviewing them.....that he didn't do anywhere near the same with the demonrats.

I don't watch him so I don't know.

Thanks for posting this. Anyone can get botoxed and rearranged, but nothing substitutes for inner beauty shining through. Laura will look absolutely beautiful when she's 80.

(Take note Theresa, Hillary, and Hollywood scalpel addicts)

Thank you for the ping, dear Gem! I love our wonderful First Lady, who is the polar opposite of the Hildabeast in every conceivable way!

Another great thread, GWB43! Thank you!

GM, Thanks for the ping!

It's sooooooooooo nice to have grown ups in the White House, and our own brunette "Grace Kelly" as co-pilot!
