The truth be told - ALL officers in Vietnam were awarded at the MINIMUM a Bronze Star thereby trashing the medal's worth won by truly deserving military members.
The Army awarded the Bronze Star to most soldiers that received the Combat Infantry Badge.
The military version of "grade inflation"
Yep, the Bronze Star became known and the Everyman's Star.
I just dug out my brother's DD214. Under Decorations, medals, Badges, Commendations, it lists:
Combat Infantryman Badge
National Defense Service Medal
Vietnam Campaign Medal
Vietnam Service Medal w/Bronze Service Star
He also received the Army Commendation Medal, although it isn't listed on his DD214. I have a copy of the original order listing him, along with several other people in his unit that received it.
When you say that the Army awarded the Bronze Star to most soldiers who received the CIB, do you mean the Bronze Service Star that goes with the Vietnam Service Medal, or do you mean the separate Bronze Star medal?
