Cleland to Ask Bush to Yank Ads (Bush Camp has letter for them)

Jerry Patterson, the Texas state land commissioner and a U.S. Marine who served in 1972-73, is greeting the duo and will be handing back to Cleland and Rassmann a letter for Kerry signed by Reps. Duncan Hunter, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee; Randy "Duke" Cunningham, R-Califwho spent 21 years in the Navy and Sam Johnson, R-Texas, who spent 28 years in the Air Force. Also signing the letter are Robert O'Malley and James Fleming, who both received Medals of Honor for their service in the Marine Corps during Vietnam, retired Lt. Col. Richard Castle and Lt. Gen. Dave Palmer, a former superintendent at West Point. Officials said the two men will be invited into the staff compound at the president's ranch and offered a discussion with Palmer and Patterson.

The letter from the president's supporters says Kerry can not claim to be a war hero while also claiming that he and his crewmates committed atrocities against the Vietnamese people. They also caution him against trying to silence his critics.

"You can't have it both ways. You can't build your convention and much of your campaign around your service in Vietnam, and then try to say that only those veterans who agree with you have a right to speak up. There is no double standard for our right to free speech. We all earned it."

FoxNews read part of the letter to be delivered.

It was laughable, considering the dirt and smear the Kerry have already engaged in. Now they are whining when they get some of their own medicine.

Tell Cleland that only communists, socialists and fascists support censorship.

Also signing the letter are Robert O'Malley and James Fleming, who both received Medals of Honor for their service in the Marine Corps during Vietnam,

Get your facts straight Liza. Fleming was a flyboy.

FLEMING, JAMES P.

Rank and organization: Captain, U.S. Air Force, 20th Special Operations Squadron. Place and date: Near Duc Co, Republic of Vietnam, 26 November 1968. Entered service at: Pullman, Wash. Born: 12 March 1943, Sedalia, Mo. Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. Capt. Fleming (then 1st Lt.) distinguished himself as the Aircraft Commander of a UH-1F transport Helicopter. Capt. Fleming went to the aid of a 6-man special forces long range reconnaissance patrol that was in danger of being overrun by a large, heavily armed hostile force. Despite the knowledge that 1 helicopter had been downed by intense hostile fire, Capt. Fleming descended, and balanced his helicopter on a river bank with the tail boom hanging over open water. The patrol could not penetrate to the landing site and he was forced to withdraw. Dangerously low on fuel, Capt. Fleming repeated his original landing maneuver. Disregarding his own safety, he remained in this exposed position. Hostile fire crashed through his windscreen as the patrol boarded his helicopter. Capt. Fleming made a successful takeoff through a barrage of hostile fire and recovered safely at a forward base. Capt. Fleming's profound concern for his fellowmen, and at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the U.S. Air Force and reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of his country.

I should have bolded Sam Johnson, R-Texas, who spent 28 years in the Air Force.

I am thrilled that these Bush supporting vets are stepping up and standing strong.

Bless them.

WOW. Haven't read the entire letter yet, but those are powerful snippets.

"If he would just answer the questions raised by the swift boat characters, he would set to rest whatever the issue is," Foley added.

Former Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating, a Republican, said Kerry likely wants certain aspects of the whole issue simply to go away.

Thanks for the ping, cyncooper. I'm looking forward to reading the complete letter, and seeing who prepared and signed it. Kerry keeps hitting on that tar baby, this is sweet.

A representative of the Administration should meet them at the furthest gate from the residence, look at the letter, and say, 'that needs to go through the U S Post Office for proper postage and delivery', turn around and walk away.

[You know the media is going to blow this up as much as possible.]
