Inouye is probably the only one on the list that has any room to talk about military service.
CNN, for the last 6 hours, has been CONSTANTLY reporting W's denial in seeing Max.
>>All day long the radio news has been reporting that Cleland's letter was "refused." I'm furious
Did he actually try to roll down some dirt road and up to the front door of the Bush ranch? The drama of it all.
Hmmm- so your wife doesn't qualify as a babe? Marriage counselor alert. LOL
OMG! Cleland has a $136,000 BECAUSE Bush gave it to him!!! Bush is TRULY a Christian who has pity on his fellow man who is downtrodden. Cleland is a pitiful fool.
Anybody know if Cleland was one of the rollers at Dewey Cyn III? I first wondered that when he was made head of the VA.
That would be impossible as I am a woman.
Don't quit your day job for a career in comedy. Duh.
And when I lived in Texas, the men I dated certainly had a sense of humor and bowling was not in their repertoire.
Let's not get too generous. Actually Bush had to appoint at least 2 democrats to this 5 person commission. It's a 'cushy' job for $136,000. I hope down the line, Bush fires the SOB.
Stop it! Stop it! Shhh...there might be a troll here! The Kerry campaign will say Freepers are insensitive about the needs of the handicap. Do you want to be called unsympathetic and uncaring? You need to show compassion...its not a dog eat dog world when your dealing with the disabled.
there's a GAZILLION Democrats he COULD have named. Bush took PITY on the Pathetic Cleland and gave him a good paying job! Bush did NOT have to do that...no good turn goes UNPUNISHED.
You heard right.
Text of Letter given to Max Cleland
Letter to John Kerry
August 25, 2004
Senator John Kerry
304 Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510
Dear Senator Kerry,
We are pleased to welcome your campaign representatives to Texas today. We honor all our veterans, all whom have worn the uniform and served our country. We also honor the military and National Guard troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan today. We are very proud of all of them and believe they deserve our full support.
Thats why so many veterans are troubled by your vote AGAINST funding for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, after you voted FOR sending them into battle. And thats why we are so concerned about the comments you made AFTER you came home from Vietnam. You accused your fellow veterans of terrible atrocities and, to this day, you have never apologized. Even last night, you claimed to be proud of your post-war condemnation of our actions.
Were proud of our service in Vietnam. We served honorably in Vietnam and we were deeply hurt and offended by your comments when you came home.
You cant have it both ways. You cant build your convention and much of your campaign around your service in Vietnam, and then try to say that only those veterans who agree with you have a right to speak up. There is no double standard for our right to free speech. We all earned it.
You said in 1992 we do not need to divide America over who served and how. Yet you and your surrogates continue to criticize President Bush for his service as a fighter pilot in the National Guard.
We are veterans too and proud to support President Bush. Hes been a strong leader, with a record of outstanding support for our veterans and for our troops in combat. Hes made sure that our troops in combat have the equipment and support they need to accomplish their mission.
He has increased the VA health care budget more than 40% since 2001 in fact, during his four years in office, President Bush has increased veterans funding twice as much as the previous administration did in eight years ($22 billion over 4 years compared to $10 billion over 8.) And hes praised the service of all who served our country, including your service in Vietnam.
We urge you to condemn the double standard that you and your campaign have enforced regarding a veterans right to openly express their feelings about your activities on return from Vietnam.
Sincerely,
Texas State Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson
Rep. Duke Cunningham
Rep. Duncan Hunter
Rep. Sam Johnson
Lt. General David Palmer
Robert O'Malley, Medal of Honor Recipient
James Fleming, Medal of Honor Recipient
Lieutenant Colonel Richard Castle (Ret.)
It WAS refused! I'll bet you that most people will think that Bush had gumption for not letting those gatecrashers in.
(Though before they arrived I was partial to the idea of Bush inviting them in for a big barbecue. LOL I think it was handled splendidly)
oooops... That one fell flat. If I had a hat I would tip it.
If your huaband needs a mano y mano talk about taking his wife out,,, nevermind. I take that back too.
The Pres should have invited that motley crew to "hep" him clear some brush on the ranch. Rasmussen looks like he needs some exercise and Max could have delivered the water...been a helluva lot more productive than what they did...
Karl Rove should have to back up to take his paycheck if he getting paid to outsmart those imbeciles in the Kerry camp....
I liked the return letter (see text posted at #72) just fine.
See #7
