"Cleland, who became a triple amputee in Vietnam when he picked up a live American grenade while horsing around"
O.K. does this qualify for the Darwin Award or what?

Cleland, who became a triple amputee in Vietnam when he picked up a live American grenade while horsing around ... He picked up the grenade that had fallen off his, or anther soldiers webbing, while exiting a helicopter. Perhaps he didn't realize the pin had been jarred loose, thus arming the grenade, but horsing around with a grenade is not an accurate statement.

Why didn't the Senate Minority Leader sign this letter?
Senator Daschle served during the Vietnam War for the Air Force Strategic Air Command.

Meanwhile, "Unfit for Command" is sailing right up to #1 on all the best-seller lists.
Hey, Max, go play with a live one.

I thought I heard today that Cleland was given a reply letter from President Bush when Cleland tried to deliver his letter.

I have a 14 year old neighbor down the street who is partially deaf and has CP. She asked me, absolutely serious, "How could anyone vote for John Kerry?" Maybe the Bush campaign could set her up in some, CHEAP, EXPLOITATIVE advertisement to win votes. Or maybe NOT.
To: hope
Cleland, who became a triple amputee in Vietnam when he picked up a live American grenade while horsing around, had a message from nine Senate Democrats who wrote that Bush had "a special duty" to condemn attacks on Kerry's military record. Did Kerry's message go off in Cleland's hand, too?

Interestingly enough, this is not the first time that John Kerry has exploited crippled Vietnam Vets for his own purposes, as seen in his VVAW march on Washington, D.C. circa 1971 (above - (C) J.F. Kerry, The New Soldier, 1972).

And here is the response TO Kerry:
Letter to John Kerry
EXCERPT:
"Were proud of our service in Vietnam. We served honorably in Vietnam and we were deeply hurt and offended by your comments when you came home.
You cant have it both ways. You cant build your convention and much of your campaign around your service in Vietnam, and then try to say that only those veterans who agree with you have a right to speak up. There is no double standard for our right to free speech. We all earned it.
You said in 1992 we do not need to divide America over who served and how. Yet you and your surrogates continue to criticize President Bush for his service as a fighter pilot in the National Guard."

"The question is where is George Bush's honor. The question is where is his shame to attack a fellow veteran who has distinguished himself in combat. Regardless of the political combat involved, it's disgraceful." It's disgraceful that Kerry disgraced our Military; it's even more disgraceful that Kerry now wants denounced and muzzled the outspoken few whom Kerry disgraced.

I'm glad to hear the Bush folks were able to handle Cleland's prank.
Cleland's attention-seeking gambit smells like something "Prankin' Al" Franken or Michael Moore would think up.

Well, for 37 cents, he could have saved himself a lot of effort. I'm surprised he didn't try to crawl up to W's front door; same as Kerry hunts quail on his stomach with no dogs to flush the quarry.
MAXwell Smart Cleland is another dolt supporting Lurch (I'm sorry he is a triple amputee). I'd be interested if Max Cleland was awarded medals and Purple Hearts for his service in Viet Nam.
Regardless, if these collective Lurch supporters/ idiots keep this up, I'm going to need an excorcism, as my head is spinning around, and ready to barf the green stuff.

I think there was a typo. It should have read:
