State won't try to force 48,000 voters off rolls

TALLAHASSEE - Florida's top election officials conceded Tuesday that they will take no legal action to force the state's 67 election supervisors to remove nearly 48,000 voters who have been identified by the state as potentially ineligible to vote.
I sent the following to the above address.
Honorable Charlie Crist Attorney General of the State of Florida
In light of recent news reports that (at least) tens of thousands of non-Florida residents are registered to vote in this state, and in light of the facts that:
Floridas elections officials apparently have no intention of addressing the issue,
Florida's election returns played a pivotal role in the 2000 US presidential election,
Florida may well play a pivotal role in the 2004 elections,
States Attorneys in several judicial circuits cannot be counted on to enforce state elections laws, and
Florida law makes it a felony to falsely register to vote in this state,
I respectfully request that your office create a statewide prosecutor to identify and prosecute, if necessary, those who would corrupt Floridas elections process. Respectfully submitted,
gee, why am I not surprised?
Wimps. My guess is that almost all of these double-registered people are old people and students -- big time lib constituencies. If we are going to knock them off the rolls in one of their states, it NEEDS to be Florida.
While they may not take the fraudulent voters off the rolls, nothing says we can't file complaints or even criminal charges against them AFTER they vote. The word needs to get out that charges WILL BE FILED, and watch the voter turnout drop in Florida and New York.
Can't citizens of Florida file claims acting as "private attorneys general" to bring non-criminal law violations ot court?
Just a question:
When I moved from one state to another and would register to vote, nobody ever said anything to me about contacting my previous state and having my name taken off the rolls in the other state.
I know people can use this "fraudulently", but is there a process in place for the state governments to track the transfer of voting rights, or is it up to the individual to remove his name from the rolls of another state?
Is the DA a dem? If so he might be waiting for Jeb to take action so they can scream like girlie-men.
This is why Republicans need to dispatch an army of lawyers to Florida.
I assume this means no one in Miami and FL in general need pay traffic violation citations now. Since obviously the laws are only for show and not to really be enforced.
OK add more. /sarcasm

Wanna bet they have NO GUTS to force Democratic election boards to obey the law?? Gutless wonder FL GOP!!!
Can a federal suit be filed against the state of FL for refusing to enforce their own election law?
In Kansas I believe that you drop off the role automatically if you do not vote in 2 consecutive general elections. But that could take nearly 6 yrs. in some cases.
What if you're dead? I can see a lot of vote fraud right there if the rolls are not purged regularly.
This is unbelievable.
So can anyone obtain "registered voters" list from each state and do our own research???
No. This is a GOOD thing. Consider if you will....
The Polls we see indicate a 50/50 race, but the Republicans control the state. If the race was that close they would be doing their job, and taking the media hits.
The only reasonable conclusion to come to, is that they are fairly confident that Florida is a BUSH state, by more than 48K votes.
And if it's not. They have 48 thousand IDENTIFIED opportunities to have votes thrown out (Telling Kerry's lawyers they better come up with a boatload of votes, if 2000 repeats itself....), though i somehow doubt they are contemplating that approach.
See above.
Thanks that makes sense.
PS Brevard county is not the infamous Broward county of south Florida and of hanging chad fame. Brevard uses optical scanned ballots (fill in the oval) and the 2000 recount numbers did not change. What I take from this is that 1) it is possible after the fact to determine who voted twice and 2) it will take gutsy prosecutors to press charges.
