According to SANA, the official Syrian news agency, the Arab League says the project to make Jerusalem wireless fidelity-enabled (WiFi) accessible threatens the Arab identity of the city.

I'm sure the UN will be weighing in on this soon, condemning Israel and making some sort of statement that this is not in line with the wishes of the ICC and EU.

Can someone explain how Arab identity is connected to land lines? I mean seriously, how can Internet capability have any cultural meaning to any culture at this point?
Is this one of those tricky halal things?
To: yonif
There's alot to admire about the Israelis: military prowess, technological innovation, intelligence capabilities... but what impresses me most about them is that they manage to live with the Palestinians in their midst. You've gotta love the land to put up with those kind of neighbors.

Certain residents of Jerusalem and surrounding areas have long been noted for having communication with no wires involved..

I think what they mean is that they won't be able to control it.

Arab League says the project to make Jerusalem wireless fidelity-enabled (WiFi) accessible threatens the Arab identity of the city to allow the population to get a more realistic view of the outside world.
The Arab league wants them to continue to be the intellectually blind homicidal maniacs that they are today.
To: Gingersnap
Can someone explain how Arab identity is connected to land lines? If somebody bitches about pervasive wireless internet access, they have simply run out of things to bitch about or bitching is all they know. Unbelievable.

It has to do with freedom of information and the fact that wireless networks are harder to disrupt via bombs.
Free information = death of radical Islam and the ignroance in which the Paleo-stenians live.
Just imagine if the Paleo-stenians started to figure out that the Arabs who peacefully live in Israel have a nice, middle-class, life. That would be an end Arafat.

The Palistinian's got instructions from the French (everybody knows that the French are Palistinian Masters) to protest, because the company installing the equipment is not French.

Can someone explain how Arab identity is connected to land lines? Easy, they PLO won't be able to monitor internet traffic. It will undermine their control of information.

As far as I can tell, the Arab Identity consists of three things, backwardness, repression and illiteracy.
You can't have uncensored, universal internet access and still maintain a closed 13th century tyranny.
To: MediaMole
More like 7th century. Personally, I think it best they return to the Azoic.
To: Gingersnap
Might be an issue of invisible rays transporting information.
To: MediaMole
"You can't have uncensored, universal internet access and still maintain a closed 13th century tyranny." Now it all makes sense! Just like Dean wanting to dismantle Fox and the junior senator Clinton wanting to censor the Internet. Sheesh, what fanatics.
