Bosnian commando reportedly targeting Vatican
BBC Monitoring - August 27, 2004, Friday

Report by Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera on 27 August 2004

Rome: A few lines sent by the MSU Multinational Specialized Unit carabinieri regiment based in Sarajevo to the Carabinieri Force General Command have been keeping the Italian security apparatus on the alert for the last few days.

The threat is a precise one: an attack to be carried out in the Vatican during a religious ceremony.

But this is not the only cause for worry. There are other details which are being checked. According to the "source", a commando is already in Rome and has an unspecified quantity of plastic explosive C4.

The commando

Obviously, the note does not reveal the "source", but the fact that the regiment has decided to forward it means that credence is being given to the warning.

The news talks about a commando made up by 10 fundamentalists (seven women and three men) from Brcko, in Bosnia-Hercegovina and is already in Rome.

According to the "contact", the action has already been planed in detail, and the explosive is ready.

"They are waiting to act and will do so during a public ceremony." No other details were given, butt the carabinieri attached a list of suspected people living in the Brcko area to their note.

This detail seems to mean that they believe their informer is reliable. These names are now being checked. Controls have been set up at land borders, particularly with Slovenia, and airports.

The anti-terrorism men in Italy have been observing mosques, religious paces and cultural centres for months and this activity has been stepped up even further in recent days.

The explosive

They are also checking the possibility that the fundamentalists may have a relevant quantity of C4. This is an explosive often used in attacks carried out by groups linked to Al-Qa'idah. It is not difficult to get hold of in the Balkans and it could have been shipped to Italy via the "Adriatic route".

Unless al-Qaida is really stupid, they will wait until November 3rd to carry out this attack.

the border checkpoints is just a stop gap..they will cross overland through the rugged terrain unchecked. Besides, they are already in place if they know what they are doing, if not, they are amateurs and will be compromised.

Hey Hoplite, how do you answer this report? i know, i know, this is only text and unverified reporting because the crime has yet to be committed. Besides, too much information is springing from the green moon sector to discount this is anti-muslim.

What kind of idiotic speak is "Bosnian commando". Sounds like great heroic words for "Islamofascistnazi".

A terrorist attack on the Vatican would be the dumbest thing muslims could do. For one it supports the claim that they have no respect for any western religious shrines or culture. Secondly something like this would only unite more Europeans in the war against terror. But than who said muslims were smart? (For the sake of PC, that last sentence was a generalisation, wouldn't want to offend anyone)

then again, this could be a wash. Diversionary publicity as this move would only set them back further and not gain anything besides a moral victory. If that is all they are looking for, so be it. They will then have galvanized more unity in the Christian world then they would have counted on.

Another scenario is the Vatican can be hatching this up as we know how desperate they are to fuse back with the Orthodox. Highly doubt this scenario.

How do I answer it?

BiH Foreign Affairs Ministry Denied Statements on Alleged BiH Terrorists’ Possible Assassination Attempt in Vatican
Sarajevo- The BiH Foreign Affairs Ministry reported that BiH institutions have been in continuous contact with Italian services and they determined that Italian newspapers “Corriere della Sera” published false information on the alleged assassination in Vatican planned by the BiH terrorists. According to the information the BiH Foreign Affairs Ministry received from the BiH Embassy to Italy, the Italian Ministry of Interiors had also denied that claim.

This is just more fecal matter thrown on the wall to obscure that which came before it.

Face it - the Orthodox/Serbian freeper batting average is on par with chicken little when it comes to either prognosticating on the future or dealing realistically with the past.

But enough about generalities - have you fooled enough people into paying for your air fare to Serbia yet, or are you just going to hang around in the States alienating more of your ethnic kinfolk, huh Mohmetti?

Yeah, yeah, I know - you're not CPC. We just have two guys running the same charity here on FR.
