They have many things in common, one of them being "longshots in a horserace".

That was ex conbgressman Bob Dornan who someone nicknamed " B1 Bob" and he is a great patriotic guy with very little tolerance for traitors like Kerry.
I personally think anyone desecrating the American Flag should be put before a firing squad and shot.
Put all these courageous flag burners on the front lines defending this country in combat , then we will see how courageous they are.
Spineless cowards enjoying life in the U.S.A.,because thousands and thousands of brave soldiers, gave their LIVES in combat for our FREEDOMS.

LOL! Well, I must say I haven't seen home-made soap before. But my (now) ex-cousin-in-law used to use the phrase about someone being "uglier than home-made soap" ALL THE TIME back 30-odd years ago. Finally, I asked him what that was all about and he asked me if I'd ever seen home-made soad ? "Uh, no." "Well, believe me, it's UGLY !", he replied. haha! The way he talked about it, I figured it must be so.

It is ugly.
My mother's people were poor,
and I mean dirt poor... no
indoor plumbing and I am talking
in the nineteen fifties. Wood burning
stove, "ice" box, not a refridgerator.
I can still "see" my grandmother making
soap and washing clothes on a board and
some large stones down by the riverside.

Times have certainly changed, haven't they ? For the most
part, everyone now has modern conveniences in this country.

Is that right?
Never heard of such a thing.
Recall when the "stone washed jeans" first hit the market?
I "knew" exactly what it meant. Unfortunately, the store
bought ones, fell short of the soft-feeling, worn type
that were a result of my grandmother's laundering.

Oh sure! We butchered twice a year, "schlachtzeit" in German. It had to be winter and a cold norther so the meats and sausages had time to cure, without spoiling.
Soap was made as the last step, as it had to sit a few days in the kettle to harden. Mixture of grease, water and lye. A small portion of it was put in another shallow pan and mixed with sifted ashes. The commercial equivalent is Lava soap.
We had a well, but the water was chemically hard. It was almost useless as anything but cattle watering, and we collected rainwater off the roof, for personal uses.
No electricity, REA was on the way. No plumbing, no running water. We eventually had a pipe from one of the rainwater cisterns thru the wall so we didn't have to carry the water in buckets for cooking and drinking from outside.
Water for wash day was heated in a big black kettle, over a mesquite wood fire. Until we got the gas washing machine, Mom used a scrubbing board. It was a small one cylinder, with a kick starter like motorbikes and mopeds.

Grotesque. She looks like a transgendred, syphilitic whore.
I know you don't mean this in the negative sense.
