How to Beat Bush
MSNBC ^ | Aug 28, 2004 | Donna Brazile

The former campaign manager for Gore-Lieberman 2000 offers four critical tips to the Kerry-Edwards campaign

Aug. 28 - It’s hard to travel across the country these days without seeing an old familiar bumper sticker: “Somewhere in Texas, a village is missing its idiot.” Perhaps the slogan rang true for many progressive voters in this highly partisan, highly charged and highly polarized electorate. But, if the bumper-sticker crowd believes it refers to George W. Bush, they are sorely mistaken.

Sen. John Kerry can win this election by understanding that he is running against a shrewd, clever and an extremely intelligent opponent who was trained in political combat by the late GOP strategist Lee Atwater.

Unfortunately the minions that Kerry proselytizes to are going to serve up a few million votes next week. When the fly-over states see the freak show that is going to be taking place outside the convention, they will understand the ideological difference between the two parties if they don't already know. Say what you want about the "village idiot" but he knows his politics and he knew that he wanted to draw these freaks out to show America how the other side thinks.

If we had wanted a protest free convention we would not have went into the belly of the beast so to speak.

This is coming from the woman who lost the election for Gore? I think her credibility isn't too good. She only kept the race close in 2000 by playing the race card.

The campaign should recognize that you are either on offense scoring points and moving the ball downfield or on defense being scored upon.

Houston, we have a problem.....

Goodness. I thought W was stoopit. Alec Baldwin told me so.

That would be the college dropout B-movie actor Alec Baldwin, right? The one who enjoys receptive sodomy and bestiality?

I guess it takes one to know one.

And they are probably going to be coaching him lots prior to this debate cycle.

I wonder if any Democrat agents working for President Bush's campaign will try to mail secret debate materials to the Kerry camp again.

The last thing they want to do in the debates is to show the people what Kerry is really like as a person. That would kill his chances.

"There is also room for negative message"

Oh that is a smear! We Dem's do not do negative campaigning. Just ask our friends in the media.

The more people know about Kerry, the more they dislike him. The more people know about Bush, the more they like him.

Hence, the network strategy for the 2004 party conventions. Show Kerry as little as possible so people won't grow to hate him. Show Bush as little as possible so people won't grow to like him.

well the truth hurts and there is more of it going to come out.

I think you are right. The swift vets aren't dummies, I believe they are saving their aces for Sept. or Oct.

I keep hoping that somewhere, someone has a picture of kerry from the early 70s either urinating on or burning an American flag. Something that he cannot deny or explain. If that happens we will see the biggest landslide in our history.

Or maybe I'm just dreaming.

ideologically significant ties to the Bush campaign.

That would be most Republicans.

Her advice cracked me up it sounds like she is advising them to act like Bush. The only problem is they'd be acting and it wouldn't convince anyone.

One reason Bush does so well is that he comes off as a person confident and truthful without seeming to be a power-monger or a self-aggrandizing idiot.

What is it with MSNBC? They really seem to value the advice of people who direct loser campaigns. I still don't see what's so great about Joe Trippi; he squandered away millions of Howie Dean's money away on trinkets, etc. early in the campaign, so the money was long gone by the time it was needed in the January/February primary season this year.

Well, it's true. W trained under Lee Atwater, he's shrewd, clever and extremely intelligent, as well. He also plays killer poker.

After having a high-energy and well-defined convention where Kerry was introduced as a decorated war hero he was forced to play defense by a group of former Vietnam veterans vehemently opposed to his candidacy. As the challenger, Kerry had to personally respond to these scurrilous attacks on his character with the hopes of setting the record straight before November. Thankfully for Kerry, this back-and-forth occurred in the slow news month of August and not in October, which would have made it omnipresent in the minds of voters.

No...im sorry but the Swifties will be putting out ad after ad up until the election... Kerry will be on the defensive until the end with them.
