French hostages plead for their lives
BBC ^ | August 30 2004

Two French journalists held hostage in Iraq have urged their government to lift a ban on Muslim headscarves in schools to save their lives. The men also called on French people to protest against the law, set to come into force this week, in a new video shown on Arabic TV station al-Jazeera.

The latest video emerged as a deadline set by their captors for the rescinding of the law was apparently extended.

Hours earlier thousands held rallies across France to support the hostages.

Al-Jazeera reported that the kidnappers had added 24 hours to a deadline to kill the two men - Christian Chesnot of Radio France Internationale and Georges Malbrunot of Le Figaro newspaper.

The French government has refused to give in to their demands to lift the ban on religious clothing in schools, and Foreign Minister Michel Barnier has been conducting an urgent mission to the Middle East to gather support...

All I can say is, the salamikazes are really, really stupid. Even the French can't have missed the fact that they're willing to kill people over friggin' head scarves. (And that from a guy (me) who thinks the head scarf ban is wrong.)

Vichystan - they thought they'd fed the beast.

They should remember their own history back a thousand years. Once you've paid the Danegeld, you never got rid of the Dane.

Where is the spirit of the men who fell at Poitiers?

"...(The)French people have been appalled by their plight, and are baffled by the fact that the country's citizens should have been targeted by Iraqi militants, given France's vocal opposition to the US-led invasion of Iraq."

These idiots never learn.

If these hostages die, the chorus will of course blame Bush.

That's what the French get for being a member of the Coalition!

Oh, wait a minute, they're NOT in the Coalition.

T.R.O.P. strikes again...

Muslim radicals certainly are afraid of women. Must have something to do with their, er, lack of, er, well, let's just say less than adequate equipment.

No matter WHO is kidnapped, if they are killed, the town it happens in should be MOAB'd out of existence as soon as the killing is verified. It's the only thing islamoscum understand.

"Two French journalists held hostage in Iraq have urged their government to lift a ban on Muslim headscarves in schools to save their lives."

If these two are killed, their family and countrymen can thank Spain and the Philippines. Of course they can thank Jacques Chirac as well, because his weak policy on terrorism has made these murderers think France is as susceptible as Spain and Manila to terrorist extortion.

What's going to happen is clear. The Frogs agree to allow headscarves and the captives are freed. Next week the dog boinking Muslims kidnap two more Froggie reporters and threaten to kill them unless headscarves are made mandatory for all students in French schools.

This is becoming painfully obvious. Sooner or later we (the western world) are going to have to take the necessary steps to stop this mayhem.

He says French people have been appalled by their plight, and are baffled by the fact that the country's citizens should have been targeted by Iraqi militants, given France's vocal opposition to the US-led invasion of Iraq.

Priceless -- the French baffled that their appeasement wasn't duly rewarded. I will be more than surprised if they don't repeal the scarf ban (but will continue to outlaw Christian and Jewish symbols).

If francestan isn't a member of the coalition persecuting the arab minority in iraq, does this mean that all the killing is about ...... religion? @:o
