I suggest reading the entire transcript, and you can see what Lauer was doing, putting words in Bush's mouth, not allowing him to fully answer, interrupting him, changing the subjects back and forth, so Bush didn't have the chance to fully explain anything. If you read the whole thing, it is becoming very clear that Lauer was trying to set Bush up to get him to say something the Dems can use against him, and that is how that comment happened. This comment totally taken out of context was what they are now trying to totally blow out of proportion. In that same paragraph, Bush said how we continue to fight the war on terror and what he is doing specifically.

It doesn't matter the way that Lauer got the quote, Lauer got the quote and you'll never see the context.
"Pretty Pony" was already out saying that "John and I believe this war IS winnnable unlike the President".
Expect several lines of contrast to Bush in the American Legion speech. It would be best to be out front of this quickly.
Expect every DNC talking head tomorrow to lead with this.
However, Dems always overreach. Instead of using this for the two or three days that it will be in the news cycle, this again pulls them off the issues where their candidate leads and makes national security front and center.

..Bush didn't have the chance to fully explain anything...

Respectfully disagree.

The president commands any discussion and has the responsibility to make sure his point is made exactly as he wants to make it.

Of course there's nothing to say that he can't misspeak or not speak with total clarity but if he lets some little shiite licker like Lauer trip him up, well...shame on our side.

Bush didn't have the chance to fully explain anything
*****

Pretty bad when people in this country can't use common sense to understand a simple statement. Personally I can think for myself and not assume he meant we were doomed.
What he said is true but doesn't mean we don't continue the fight to keep it at bay as much as possible. There will always be a terrorist somewhere...plotting something to hurt others. OK 1/2 of American...wake-up...set feet on floor...breath in...breath out...breath in..breath out......................................................(opps your turning blue) breath in...breath out...breath in....breath out!!!
