Al-Qaeda link to plane blasts: Putin
Herald Sun ^ | 31st August 2004

RUSSIAN President Vladimir Putin today linked the downing last week of two passenger airliners to Al-Qaeda.

He said this proved the presence of organised international terrorism on Russian soil. "The fact that an international terrorist organization linked to al-Qaeda took responsibility for the blowing up of two planes shows once again the link between destructive elements in Chechnya and international terrorism," Mr Putin said in Sochi, Russia.

After talks with French President Jacques Chirac and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, Mr Putin said Russia would continue to combat separatist forces in Chechnya.

But he said Moscow was prepared "to continue dialogue with any forces interested in a political solution in Chechnya".

Yeah, talk with them, they will come around.

Sounds like Putin is taking a move out of Kerry's playbook.

Standby for a Russian street-sweep. THEY still know how to do it.

Yes, even innocent Russians have died. My condolences to the Russians in a time of tragedy.

Why does this delay keep happening? It causes a double posting.

Putin is no John Kerry. Trust me, the only reason they would be talking is because they need to get them surrounded. Then he will kill them. Trust me, he is "old school" russian.

If Russia can tie this in with al-Qaeda, do you think President Bush will change his mind about the Chechnyans?

We need to develop a closer alliance with the Russians both on the War on Terror, and economically.

Yeah...and maybe they will start exporting their beautiful women. Did you see those gymnasts with the streamers on the Olympics. Everyone was a knock out and every one of them was Russian or affiliated. If I had that many beautful women in my country I would put up a wall to keep them in...oh yeah...that's right. They did put up a wall.

"If you harbor terrorists, we're against you" Sounds to me like we're already at war with Chechnya. The good news is, it sounds like we've picked up another ally in our war against terror.

The bad news is that so many more people had to die.

(Hmmmm The US and the Russians won WWII, should we be allies again?)
