HOUSTON -- August is ending and political campaign season has hit full stride. Voters are being inundated with television ads touting the accomplishments of one candidate and blasting the failures of the other. Rallies are being held, letters sent, signs posted -- even those who actively attempt to ignore it all are going to be saturated with political rhetoric.
Whom to vote for? And more importantly, why? It seems that those falling on the liberal side of the political bell curve have taken an "anybody but Bush" stance, and the conservatives are convinced that Kerry could very well be the Antichrist.
Are these good reasons to vote for someone? If Kerry were to win this November, would people send him congratulatory cards saying, "Congratulations President Kerry! We don't like you much, but wow, we really hated that other guy"?
As sad as it sounds, I believe Kerry is being set up to be a fall guy by his own party, for a number of reasons.
For one, winning against an incumbent is difficult, even in a volatile political climate. While it's not impossible, it isn't exactly a walk in the park.
Two, Hillary Clinton has her eyes on the presidency, and she is infinitely more desirable to the party. If Kerry were to win, he would be the incumbent in 2008, which would quash her aspirations until 2012, when she will have been out of the public eye for too long. For her, time is of the essence; it wouldn't be surprising to see her vote for Bush in November.
Next, Kerry's running mate: Sen. John Edwards. He's young, he's charismatic, he's inexperienced. Based on television footage, it almost seems like Edwards was chosen to be Kerry's lapdog. Yes, many people have spoken in favor of Edwards, but these are mostly young people who couldn't find a political platform if it was painted on their floor. These are the same people who will forget to vote on Election Day because they got tied up in an election coverage drinking game.
Face it, Bush will carry Texas. For Kerry sympathizers, or even Bush fans, it's time to consider voting for a third party candidate -- any third party candidate.
Texas is not a battleground state, but in Bush Country people might as well start throwing their votes to those who need them. Of course, a third party candidate will never win, but if they receive 5 percent or more of the vote they will be eligible to receive public funding, and in the future we could have more than two real choices on the ballot.
That is what this country is all about, right: Choices? Aren't three options better than two?
Oh, I thought the title said "Vote 3rd party and make NO difference." But, that would be more truthful, wouldn't it ?
Another reason to abolish public funding of presidential elections.
There are many choices in life, except for politics. Same old two parties. As more and more middle class, average Americans become disenfranchised, and isolated from the two beltway parties, I am very confident, in the future there will be a choice. It's clear, even many of the party die-hards and dedicated conservatives now feel they've been ignored and left behind.
Immigration, job outsourcing, and father's rights. That will be the coalition for a good conservative third party.
"I hope others know that a vote for a third party candidate is a vote for Kerry"
Texas is going to Bush anyway so hysterical pronouncements like this are not only foolish but counterproductive. Get a grip.
Here we go again. I am getting so sick and tired of these 'pruists' always wanting to undermine the GOP as the only real alternative to the pacifist-socialist Dem. Party. Whether it is Pat Buch. , the Libertarians, Howard Phillips or whoever thinks that a 3rd Party will do anything but win the election for the horrid Democrats. If voters split their votes over hopelessly losing groups like the one recommended above, REAL LEFTISTS WIN. Not pseudo-lefty loons, real ones . The Dash and Teddy in charge with the two Johns. C'mon now. Vote GOP and W and keep these bums out of office. Enough fantasy.
So you would object to a person who is leaning Democrat voting third party?
Should Democrats vote for Nader?
I really don't care how Democrats vote...this is not our base...didn't get him in 2000 won't in 2004
Your base? Who is in your base?
Oh, good. Because most on this forum are very anti third party. They want people to vote for Republicans no matter how far left they move. They say that if you don't vote for lefties if they are Republicans you are helping other lefties. It's all quite complicated ya know.
