Mexico benefits accord rapped

By Stephen Dinan
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

The General Accounting Office said yesterday the administration has not done the research to justify signing a "totalization agreement" with Mexico, which would allow Mexican nationals including some one-time illegal immigrants to collect Social Security benefits earned during their time in the United States.

"That little fine isn't going to begin to compensate for what all those millions of guest workers would be getting by qualifying for a full American social security check --- for themselves and their families."

I'm fine with the plan so long as the fine is $500 million, they're deported until they pay the fine, and they're executed if they come back into the country without the cash.

#45 I found another one. Have I apologized enough for to you when I dared question there were people on FR stupid enough/disingenuous enough to support Bush's Amnesty yet? Holy Cow I can't believe these people. I am convinced that every single one of them is entirely dishonest in this whole debate. The one on here has been posting all these articles like mad, spamming the thread really. Entirely too prepared to be taken as reasonably disagreeing.

Tell me, does this sound familiar?

Frankly, I've heard of worse plans. It's a plea bargain, not an amnesty (you don't pay fines for amnesties), and it gets anonymous illegals registered, as well as gives them incentives to finally stay out of trouble with the law. So this plan doesn't have me flailing my arms over my head while screaming that the sky is falling.

Weren't you just debating the "plea bargain" thing on here the other day? Wasn't the "flailing my arms over my head" line just used the other day too? The Cheap Labor Republican Sellouts are getting so easy to spot because they post Talking Points like a Democrat.

Next thing you'll see is that the border agents are SMEARING the admin.

Regarding the Mexican vote. They don't vote Republican. So at this time all of the vote buying to people who are not supposed to vote at all and do not vote conservative makes no sense. I guess they are looking at the long term when with the worker programs, etc. America will be mostly Hispanic.

You're totally on the wrong side of this issue. These people are criminals, law-breakers, and should be shipped back to their home country paid for by that country. I don't care how hard they work, I don't give a rip about their families or whatever, they're ILLEGAL!

This drip, drip, drip, amnesty plan sucks.

We call it slow motion amnesty.

What's really outrageous, is there are many thousands from countries other than Mexico, that want to enter legally, by the numbers, as they watch President Bush pander to the Mexicans at ever turn.

"Well, with two months to go to the election, this should just about seal the deal.......another Bush snatching defeat from the jaws of victory."

Nope - fortunately (or unfortunately), the media doesn't seem to give a damn about border security either. The only time they address the issue is when poor, poor Jose dies in the desert because the mean aweful US stormtroopers wouldn't let him illegally violate the sovereign borders of the United States in a more hospitable area.

Maybe the feds figure, what the heck, there won't be any money left in SS for anyone. But any way you slice it, this stinks.

"people who are not supposed to vote"

Think about it - we're giving them jobs, we're giving them social security, we're giving them drivers' licenses... Just how long do you think it'll be before someone proposes we let them vote as well?

"and do not vote conservative"

Oh, but maybe if we kiss their asses more than the other guys do, they'll vote for us! [/IDIOT /IDIOT /IDIOT]

All this is is just an elaborate scam to shift blame for the collapse of SS onto the backs of Mexicans making them the scapegoat so Congress and the WH can escape blame when we retire and there is nothing there for us, the U.S. citizen - certainly not the money we paid in for 40-50-60 years and Congress brazenly stole. Congress for generations, with the blessing of the WH has for many years raided the SS fund and put IOU markers in the place of it.

Now, with the baby boomer generation nearing retirement age and there is an empty SS fund why not do just what the WH is now doing with the full collaboration of the Congress. People need to wise up already! They are only trying to cover their tracks. The only thing you will get for your retirement is their worthless I.O.U.'s and many here will go right along with this scheme and re-elect these sorry thieves.

"I don't care how hard they work"

I work really hard, can I go rob a bank now? But, but I work really hard...

It truly boggles the mind sometimes.

So that makes it ok?

Thank you for posting this. It clearly shows that once again, the Arbusto administración is trying to pull a fast one.

This has been the hallmark of this administration. Earlier this year, the Arbusto HHS created and distributed propaganda commercials pushing his medicare legislation which were designed to look like news reports. Naturally, none identified the government itself as the source of the commercials leaving the viewer to conclude that this propaganda was legitimate news stories. The GAO caught them and rapped their wrists over it.

Here's a quote from the article you referenced:

"SSA provided no information showing that it assessed the reliability of Mexican earnings data and the internal controls in place to ensure the integrity of information that SSA will rely on to pay Social Security benefits," she said."

She also disputed the administration's estimate of totalization's cost, calling the actual cost "highly uncertain.""

The SSA predicted a first-year cost of $78 million based on an estimate of 50,000 beneficiaries currently living in Mexico and predicted the number of beneficiaries would grow sixfold over time."

Ms. Bovbjerg, though, said those figures don't take into account the estimated 5 million illegal immigrants from Mexico currently living in the United States or the millions who have lived in the United States but have since returned to Mexico."

Wow, its THAT big of a conspiracy to blame the Mexicans?

Okaaaay. So we are going to remember this 20 years from now and this little story, which got 0 media attention? But that's what the WH and congress WANT us to think, that no one knows, but the truth is everyone knows. That's why its going to work!

The truth is that SS has always, ALWAYS been a shell game. There has never been a "lock box" it is paid with this year's taxed income because congress and the WH have always spent it right up. Here's a novel idea that even the poor victimized Mexicans pulling down SS can appreciate, IF WE DON'T WASTE MONEY ON PEOPLE NOT PAYING INTO THE SYSTEM, THE SYSTEM WILL BE BETTER OFF.

The real question is whether or not the REAL Aliens have to pay SS. Yeah!

- more -

It all make perfect sense when one thinks about it.

Social Security is broke!

What better way than to try and obfuscate and shift attention and blame away from the thieves who have stolen us blind when the baby boomers are on the verge of retiring by the millions!

Congress has for the past 40-50 years been "borrowing" from the SS fund and putting back only IOU's instead of putting our money back that they've been pilfering for 40-60 years now. The bill is about to come due and now the damned thieves are in a quandary and someone hatches this plan to try and hide their misdeeds while Americans will have to work until they drop dead unless they were fortunate enough to put away something "extra" for their golden years. No wonder Congress exempted themselves from the SS program all those years ago.

People, we've been had and victimized big time. If Americans don't march on Washington and start stringing these bastards up from lamp posts then nothing will change and nothing can save America and Americans! Can anyone say THIRD WORLD NATION status with 10 years or less?!

Surely you jest...San Francisco has that very issue on their ballot this election. A referendum to allow illegals to vote in local elections. Is this a great country or what?
