George McKelvey, that is, the Democratic mayor of Youngstown, Ohio, who's here talking up the re-election bid of President Bush and sounding every bit like Miller Who sounds like a Republican.
Miller has so wowed the GOP that the retiring Georgia senator was invited to be the keynote speaker at this week's Republican National Convention.
But McKelvey won't be far behind, telling the cheering Ohio delegation at a Tuesday breakfast that "the left wing hates George Bush the most because he believes in God, and you better believe that."
As for his party's nominee, John Kerry, McKelvey said, "Like the rest of you, I have no idea where he stands on anything."
McKelvey has been making the rounds on national talk shows for the Bush campaign and said he plans to join the president on the campaign trail in Ohio.
"I'm embarrassed that Jerry Springer is the Democrat of the Year in Ohio," said McKelvey, referring to the Cincinnati talk show host who flirted with a run for the U.S. Senate. "Let me state that very clearly for the media - he's probably their hero."
But he didn't respond to an invitation afterward to join the GOP.

This is amazing. Youngstown is overwhelmingly 'Rat and working class. One of the most 'Rat cities in Ohio. I hope he gets to speak at the convention.

How popular is the mayor in his hometown?

Don't know exactly, but I've heard he has a very high approval rating (60 plus percent?).
Youngstown is where I was born, and this man makes me PROUD of it!

This is the land of Jim Trafacant. Everybody's a Democrat but they hate most of their own party.

It amazed me too. I live in Akron which is almost as 'Rat as Y-town. I was hoping to hear Mayor Plusquellic say the same, but no, he opined "McKelvey must know something about Bush we don't, because I haven't seen a thing his administration is doing to help the economy in Ohio" or some crap like that. This joker (Plusquellic) ran unopposed in the 1999 mayoral election. I wrote myself in! I can't believe there's not one Republican in Akron that can run against this guy.

Springer was the major of Cincinnati...until he got caught using city funds to pay for Kentucky hookers. Now you know where Springer got the original idea for his TV show...his personal life.
