The pro-cheap labor crowd keeps coming up with these sob stories. And they are out there. How about the other stories? You know, the victims of illegal crime sprees? How about the billions the rest of us have to fork out to pay that cheap labor? THAT is the real sob story.

And she has her high school yearbook, with an aphorism from Gandhi: "Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever."

He also said "I complained about having no shoes until I saw a man with no feet."

Why didn't the family apply for asylum and a special visa? I don't get it.

I didn't know we were supposed to call the "undocumented immigrants", I always thought they were "ILLEGAL immigrants"...

Llorame un rio. For every "honor student" there are 50 illiterate gang banging vatos swaggering around the schools, driving the classroom content back by grade levels.

Why do we allow ILLEGAL ALIENS to attend our schools? I guess our laws mean NOTHING.

No, they really don't. Since the government can pick and choose which laws to enforce, it seems we should be able to pick and choose which laws we obey.

This article makes me want to puke.
How about the people like me that spend my own hard
earned money to bring my wife here legally? And those millions more that wait patiently and wait their turn to enter legally? Yea Cry me a river. Fu*kin deport them all, i don't mind paying higher wages or a little more money for the tomatoes and veggies i buy at the store, with stuff at a higher price i would not waste as much food. Also with the illegals out, we can make our local "welfare" people get forced to get a job instead of sitting on their asses collecting money off our paychecks each month. There is no free lunch, and America is supposed to be a country of opportunity, not a country of "give give give"

Rather like Rich Mullins' "Live like you'll die tomorrow--die knowing you'll live forever."

But then, why didn't the NYT promote the lying reporter, Jason whatever, instead of terminating him? The NYT appears to believe in rewarding criminal law breakers, why not Jason?

These people have broken into our country and are tking resources that belong to citizens and legal residents. Why do these neocomminists claim that the criminals are entitled to steal even more resources? It is because they know that infinite drains by criminals and the resources of the U.S. will eventually weaken our ability to meet the needs of legitimate residents.

While I agree with those here who have no sympathy for illegal immigrants (they are, after all, here illegally) I do have some compassion for the children. The decision to come here wasn't theirs and I feel bad for those who've grown up here, worked hard and done well but have to pay for their parent's mistakes.

How about the money that was spent on Angela Perez for her high schooling that reduced the budget so that a US citizen didn't receive a good education causing not to be admitted to college either? Yes this is a sad story for legal residents because some foreign countries wont pay for the education of their own citizens.

In 1982, the Supreme Court rules in Plyler v. Doe , 457 U.S. 202 (1982), that public schools were prohibited from denying immigrant students access to a public education. The Court stated that undocumented children have the same right to a free public education as U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Undocumented immigrant students are obligated, as are all other students, to attend school until they reach the age mandated by state law.

And thus the local tax payer is forced to fund

a) Big deal - her family has been here (illegally) 5 years and this entitles her to not only free high school education but grants and loans not available to many legal residents? She and her family are tourists who have overstayed their welcome, not legal permanent residents.

b) Aren't there universities in Colombia that would gladly accept a bright student?

c) Who's to blame? YOUR PARENTS.

d) They probably did apply for asylum, were rejected, and daddy tried yet another tack to stay here. Basically, if the company he works for is sponsoring him for a visa, that company is claiming that no other American can do the job he is doing. they pass him less than an American would command, he gets a work visa.
