Storm Warning! Early Show's Hannah Storm Rips John Edwards. Voice of Disappointed Dems?
The Early Show - CBS

Posted on 09/02/2004 4:45:14 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

It was only a week or so ago that this thread excoriated The Early Show's Hannah Storm for her rude and partisan treatment of a Republican guest.

What a difference a week makes! Hannah just got done dissecting John Edwards, leaving him flustered and reduced to nervous laughter.

Rather than focusing on the tone of last night's RNC speeches, which would have given Edwards an opening, Hannah immediately put Little John on the defensive by launching into an attack on Kerry's record in voting against the litany of weapons systems.

A manifestly nervous Edwards virtually tried to claim that Kerry was legally obliged to vote against the weapons systems. He stated that the votes were necessary in order to bring our military into "compliance" with aftermath of the cold war, and lamely suggested that Dick Cheney had taken the same position at the time. Right.

When Edwards tried to change the subject, claiming that there was "little discussion [at the RNC] of health care, jobs and the mess in Iraq," Storm yanked his nose back into Kerry's steaming security mess.

Storm: "A Washington Post poll shows Americans overwhelmingly trust President Bush over John Kerry to fight terrorism by a margin of 56% to 38%."

She then devastated him with this question: "have you lost the debate on natonal security?"

Edwards claimed "No, because between now and the election we wil explain our national security plan."

Storm interrupted him: "When are we going to start hearing specifics?"

Edwards was so bent out of shape, so forced out of his aw-shucks southern gentleman routine, that he resorted to rudeness: "I can start right now if you'll let me," he said with a nervous laugh, realizing the impertinence of his reply.

Edwards launched into the standard rap about builidng alliances. But when he added a line about implementing the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission, again Hannah jumped in: "President Bush is implementing a lot of those recommendations."

When Edwards tried to counter that W was not fully implementing them or doing so slowly, Storm jumped down his throat: "Can you give me *one* specific example?" You really had to hear her tone to fully appreciate the dubiousness and virtual rudeness of her question.

In a weak response, Edwards babbled some inside-the-beltway stuff about W not giving the new national intelligence director sufficent budgetary authority. Yawn.

We should have no illusions: there's no doubt Hannah remains a certified member of the liberal media. But her obvious anger and disrespect directed at Edwards was very telling. I read it as the voice of frenzied, desperate Dems everywhere: "you and Kerry are blowing this thing, and we're worried it could be too late to retrieve it. Why haven't you been more forceful and what the heck do you plan to do now to save this sinking ship?"

Success has a thousand fathers. Failure has your former friends in the liberal media dissing you as an ineffectual loser!

Edwards claimed "No, because between now and the election we wil explain our national security plan."

Their plan is to SAY they have a plan....nothing more.

Now on the Today Show, Matt Lauer is continuing the plaint of the disillusiend Dems. "The Swift Boat claims have hurt Kerry. Why hasn't Kerry responded more forcefully and why hasn't he responded himself rather than essentially putting you out there?"

What a devastating jab. Not only is he criticizing Kerry's failure to respond, he is essentially calling him a coward for hiding behind the skirts of non-veteran Edwards.

Edwards gave a pitiful response about Kerry "wanting to take America to a better place," blah, blah, blah, and how it was "a sign of character" not to have responded. Huh?

What fun to get the skinny on this interview! thanks!!

Edwards is on with Matt too...and although I only caught a snippet, sounds to me like Edwards is to be Kerry's cannon fodder, but he's shooting blanks... Same old lame spin, far as I can tell.

We got a preview last night, when the Vice President made mention of the scourge of personal injury lawyers.

The media liberals are not going to let those incompetents take them down with them. They're not throwing Deadwards softball questions anymore. They want to see if they have the starch to take on the Republicans and they don't like what they're seeing. Little Johnny was pathetic. A pretty woman made him look and feel like an idiot. Imagine how he's going to fare against Vice President Dick Cheney who is not a pretty face.

That was exactly the thrust of Lauer's devastating blow, effectively calling Kerry a coward who was hiding behind John Edwards, of all people.

LOL. Edwards reminds me of the Red Tory running in Ontario's PC Party leadership race who says he has a plan. Liberals whatever their colors, when the say they have plans, they never lay them out in detail. In different parlance, this is called "blowing out smoke."

The liberal media may turn on the Democratic presidential ticket if they can't deliver the goods. Hell hath no fury like suckered liberal journalists.

If people live in a time zone where the Early Show on CBS hasn't come on yet, I'd encourage them to catch the Storm interview of Edwards.

Not quite as earth-shatteringly hostile as Katie Couric's devastation of Michael Moore yesterday, but still it was astounding to see a liberal media-ite attack the Dems poster boy so rudely.

They are freaking out because it's becoming clear to them that we are not just going after the swing voters. We are also going for the switch voters in the battleground states. The strategy is just brilliant IMO. I think they are boldly going for some blue states that normally would be written off -- NY, MA, CA. Gov. Romney from MA wasn't on prime time but he gave a really good speech which will play locally in MA. Arnold could possibly give us CA and the President himself, could deliver NY. I think there will be some major upsets this election.
