NEW YORK Mayor Curt Pringle, Anaheim's pitch man for bringing the 2008 Republican National Convention to Orange County, hit a bump in the road Wednesday.
The governor didn't show for his party. And neither did the kind of influential Republicans Pringle needs to back the bid of the home of Disneyland to host the GOP in four years.
Pringle had a lavish spread laid out late Wednesday afternoon at the Ritz-Carlton in lower Manhattan, a new hotel with a spectacular view of the New York Harbor. Carved meats, Caesar salad, pasta, an open bar and hors d'oeuvres. Beach Boys music played, and the room was filled with signs of Anaheim images Disneyland, the Mighty Ducks, Angel Stadium.
There were goodie bags that included a Mickey Mouse flag pin. And there were red baseball bats with Garrett Anderson's signature.
Pringle, who is a lobbyist besides being mayor, said so far he was paying the bill for the Anaheim bid but was seeking contributions. He said it will take about $200,000 to fund the proposal.

After seeing the unwashed masses in the streets of NYC, I don't think I want the convention here.
Just imagine how mad the Leftists will be in 2008 after being out of power for 4 more years!
Maybe we should have the '08 convention in San Francisco. Just to drive them completely over the edge. :^)
Anaheim is too tame. The RNC should hold its convention in San Francisco. Those unwashed protestors are don't play well with the rest of the country. Perhaps they could schedule a flag burning for prime time. It would be a great demonstration of what life under a DemocRAT president would be like.
How dare you beat me to nominate San Francisco.
Or maybe he's screaming from something else...
Gov. Backs '08 Anaheim Convention -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Tuesday endorsed Anaheim's bid to host the 2008 Republican National Convention, saying that a California convention would help bring business to the state. "I hope they have it in California. It would be terrific," Schwarzenegger told reporters. The story is in the Los Angeles Times -- 9/2/04
