Sources say former Texas Lt. Governor Ben Barnes has already sat down for a '60 Minutes' interview that will air a week from Sunday.
Over the weekend, the national press gave Barnes's remarks (about President Bush's admission into the Texas National Guard) only cursory coverage.
The Washington Post ran a brief wire story on Saturday, the same day it printed another exhausitve piece about allegiations surrounding John Kerry's war past.
In a subsequent online chat, the Post reporter coving the Swift Boat story suggested that Barnes comments didn't qualify as 'fresh information' and conseqently he wasn't interested in 'simply regurgitating old controversies.'
The New York Times ran a brief item on Barnes's statements deep inside its Saturday news section, next to a lengthy profile of Kerry's longtime Swift Boat nemesis John O' Neill.
A '60 Minutes' spokesperson declined to comment, says that the program does not discuss reports that are in progress.

60 Minutes is hopping to give the story "legs".
Or more accurately, resurrect it from the dead.
Nobody cares about the Guard, Barnes. Dude, wake up, it's 2004, not 1968.
American Specator Magazine and Rush said this was coming..
Any attacks on Bush's service in the TANG have no traction, because he's not tried to make anything of it for political gain. The SBVFT's ads have had traction, simply because of Kerry's effort to wrap himself in his Vietnam self-service.
It's very simple.
Kerry is in trouble.
He asks his attack dogs in the Mainstream Media to put someone on who will attack the President.
None of the dozens of Swift Vets who served with Kerry and can show that he lied about his war record are invited, naturally.
Isn't that interesting, the Swifties can't get the time of day from the 'Old Media' but a story that even the Washington Post won't touch is good enough for 60 Minutes!
Was John O'Neil (sp) on "60 Minutes" too?
Does anyone with a brain actually watch those senior citizens anymore?
Don Hewitt says he 'saved' Clinton with the Super Bowl Sunday interview and now he's trying to do it for Kerry--We've got to stop this.
EXCLUSIVE: The Dirt on Ben Barnes Claims about Bush and the Air National Guard (Part 2)
From what I understand, Barnes was not Lt. Gov. until 1969...and was Barnes guilty of anything illegal???
<\sarcasm>
This is UNREAL!!!!
Haven't given any time to the Swifties, but they are gonna give this Pr*ck a forum.
Will they disclose that he has raised lots, lots of money for Kerry. Is a total corrupt slime and his story doesn't check out!!!
WOW!!! Viacom is really, really EVIL!!
