Republican leadership better watch out! If even they start picking on Zell, a lot of people are gonna be REAL upset.

Let me correct the reporting of MSNBC, who (one should keep in mind) has a sense of humor about reporting since it keeps Chrissie Matthews on the air as a "reporter." MSNBC wants to pretend that the Bush Campaign is backing away from Zell Miller's remarks.

Another proof that MSNBC has a sense of humor about "news" is that it called John McCain a "leading Republican." Half wrong on both words.

Of course the Bush Campaign will keep its distance from Zell. The whole reason for having a Democrat in to make remarks like that is that a Republican could not give that speech. Duh! But are the Republicans anything but pleased that Zell drew blood on the Democrats the death of a thousand cuts? Hell, yes.

Balony.

I don't doubt john mc cain's statement because if you will check back, he has spent more time in bed with john kerry and the democrats than probably has with his wife.

Other than that, it is probably a bunch of comments taken out of context or just lies.

Backed away from the very best speech of the year?

If they really did ditch him , I am very angry.

After all he has done for them?

If any of this is true all that shows me is that some of the Republicans are gutless Wussies and I have no use for them.
Forget the Focus groups and Poll Numbers. I believe as Richard Nixon once said there is the vast Silent Majority that probably agree more than disagree with Zell Miller.
If you invite a guy like Zell Miller then you have to stand with him. People like David Gergen and the rest of the inside the beltway crowd are not in touch with reality or what is truly going on in the rest of the country.

This better not be true. The campaign can't back away from something they wrote. It just looks stupid.

i really doubt this is true... every Republican i heard today completely backed up Miller's performance... i think the media is lying... grasping...

“I’m sure he knew exactly what he was talking about. [But] I just don’t agree with the fact that the Democrats are unpatriotic or the assertion that the Democrats are
unpatriotic,” he [McCain] said.

This is patently false. Miller said - twice - that he didn't question RAT (F'ing in particular) patriotism. What he said he questioned is their judgement. Miller is right-on. Because of his unvarnished candor and dead-on analysis, I actually wish he were the Vice Presidential nominee.

OTOH, I personally DO question the patriotism of most RATs and more than a few I hold to be outright treasonous. RATs need to PROVE their patriotism by defending America and our Constitution. If they don't, I say exhile them to the Vieques island bombing range...

I remember when McCain first popped up on my radar. Imminently he is a good guy, but he is a wild card. He tends to open his mouth without thinking or checking the facts.

He's emotion driven with very little rationality when he gets upset. That's how he ends up saying stupid things so often.

I didn't hear Laura Bush make any such remarks. And I didn't know that Zell was eliminated from sitting in the presidential box.

But I sincerely hope this isn't true.

Perhaps the Republicans running the campaign don't realize the depth of feeling out here in the hinterlands. Zell gave one of the most electrifying speeches I've heard in many a year.

And to top it off, Zell handed Girly-Man Chris his head on Hardball.

I've talked today to various people from Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina, Republicans and Democrats. They were impressed with Zell. And the powers that be shove him out of the Presidential Box?

As someone said above, I'm sick of niceness. Both Zell Miller and Dick Cheney were on the attack. It seemed very good to me, very refreshing to finally see Republicans (and one Democrat) finally hitting back at a bunch of creeps who have spent a year and more viciously attacking the President.

Zell, I thank you with all my heart. You won a lot of hearts out here.

Atilla The Hen needs to do a backbone transplant on the son, just as she did on his father, the Elder Bush.

Everything Miller said was spot on! Too bad Bush lacked backbone to agree with a Democrat who tells it like it is.

I just love the way the liberal media types are spinning the Zell story. All they're doing is admitting that his speech was EFFECTIVE! They can't deal with that, so they concoct "backfire" and "back off" stories.

Wednesday night, Miller delivered a fervent pro-Bush sermon that infuriated Democrats and left even some Republicans unsettled.

I saw how unsettled the Republican delegates were hearing Zell's speech. They were so unsettled they couldn't even remain seated. They had to get out of their seats and wave their arms around while shouting encouragement.

Even at home, this Republican was so unsettled by Zell's speech that spontaneous "go get 'em"s and occasional whooping could be heard all over the house.

I think some Republicans are still stuck in loser mode.

including complaints from prominent Republicans like Sen. John McCain of Arizona.

I defy this bush league propagandist to come up with another prominent Republican.

The rats are finished.
