This crap has to be changed. Our kids are sitting ducks. Teachers and administrators should have the right--nay, the responsibility--to carry in public and private schools. Homeschooling jokes not welcome in this context.What will it take to shake some Americans out of idealistic ideas about negotiation and appeasement?

Demand that the stupid federal law banning firearms in schools be revoked. If we are faced with similar actions here, we need an armed citizenry.
I know you mean well by this, but do you realize that MANY (if not most) teachers are democrats who are anesthetized by the NEA. In order to accomplish what you suggest, we'd need to first neutralize the NEA. ...hmmm
