Bay staties (Mass. State Police) for Bush: Union led by White House pal eyes endorsement

The state troopers' union is seriously considering an endorsement of President Bush, a vote that would be an embarrassment for Sen. John F. Kerry and a risky move for the union, according to government and law enforcement sources.

``It would be embarrassing for the senator that the state police in his own state aren't supporting him,'' said one law enforcement source.

Members of the executive board for the State Police Association of Massachusetts met earlier this week but took no action on an endorsement - despite intense speculation the leadership was poised to reach a decision, according to state police sources.

The SPAM union, which represents about 2,000 troopers and sergeants, endorsed Republican Gov. Mitt Romney when he ran for governor in 2002. Its president, John Coflesky, who has a close relationship with high-level Bush staffers, already has cast a vote to endorse Bush in a national troopers' union for which he serves as an executive board member.

``(Coflesky) was one of the speakers that actually voiced a strong opinion in favor of Bush,'' said Casey Perry, chairman of the National Troopers' Coalition, which has endorsed Bush.

Coflesky, who did not return calls for comment, has come under fire by rank-and-file members for flexing too much political muscle with former state police Col. Thomas Foley without the consent of union members, according to sources.

The fallout from Coflesky's threats to bypass Foley's authority with direct appeals to Romney led Foley to retire last June - a departure that occurred weeks after Coflesky hopped into the presidential motorcade when Bush came to Boston.

``It was a staffer who pulled Coflesky out of the line and put him in the presidential motorcade,'' a source said.

The endorsement issue is ``kind of a minefield for the governor right now,'' said one law enforcement source, who explained there are ``demands and deals that go with'' an endorsement. The union has yet to settle its contract, and observers are waiting to see if a Bush endorsement in Kerry's home state delivers a sweetheart trooper contract.

Romney spokeswoman Shawn Feddeman said the governor had no comment on a potential endorsement.

If the endorsement materializes, there likely would be a political backlash among Democratic legislators, who have voiced distaste for the prospect of a Bush endorsement in the wake of their support for state police spending priorities, according to legislative and law enforcement sources.

``It is like physics,'' said one high-ranking State House Democrat. ``For every action, there is a reaction.'' <p=

A millionaire like him could've married a younger, better looking woman.

He also could've married a woman like Teresa, who was not a billionaire.

So he didn't go for a younger, prettier woman. He didn't fall in love with a similar woman for her personality, and women like Teresa are a dime a dozen (minus her billions). That only leaves her money...

All things considered, the money and the life and power it promised was probably just too tempting. If he knew he was running in 2004 for President, a rich wife would provide the cushion he'd need so he could invest millions of his own money to kick start a campaign.

This is a man who thinks he's a genius and does a lot of pre-planning when it comes to his Presidential aspirations. He just doesn't have the attention to detail and stamina to keep track of everything he's doing to be successful. He alienates his aides and people who would help him because he thinks he is smarter than everyone around him. So he tries to stick his fingers into every pie, and he interferes constantly with the work of very able and capable aides.

When something fails, he blames someone other than himself, every single time.

Here's the definition of "megalomania".
•A psychopathological condition characterized by delusional fantasies of wealth, power, or omnipotence.
•An obsession with grandiose or extravagant things or actions.

Sound familiar? I wonder if comparing John Kerry to Napoleon Bonaparte would be valid... You know, John Kerry all the flaws of Napoleon, and half the ability. ;-)
