BBC Photo Essay: The Siege at Beslan, Russia
BBC On-Line ^ | staff

Posted on 09/04/2004 12:43:18 PM PDT by yankeedame

A day of horror for the residents of Beslan, as the siege at the No 1 school comes to a bloody end.

Gunfire and blasts were heard from inside the building - then there was pandemonium as the hostages fled for their lives.

Russian commandos stormed the building in an unplanned response to the sudden violence.

Shooting continued as soldiers - and, some reports say, armed parents - went after the hostage-takers.

For the hostages, it was a bloody climax to a desperate three-day ordeal.

Correspondents said there appeared to be little preparation for the rescue operation that was needed.

A lack of ambulances meant private cars were used to ferry away the injured.

Firefighter in the ruins...

Frantic relatives hunted for their loved ones amid the confusion.

There was relief for some...

For others, desperately scanning lists of victims, the fate of their loved ones remains unknown.

And for others, there is no hope at all.

Remember after 9-11 when Ann Coulter was flamed
for suggesting that we CONVERT Muslims
to Christianity?

"We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity. We weren't punctilious about locating and punishing only Hitler and his top officers. We carpet-bombed German cities; we killed civilians. That's war. And this is war."

I believe she was let go from National Review for this.

[Secularists and pro-abortionists who are offended at
Christianity might want to consider compulsory sterilization of Muslims to dry up the pool of young
terrorists. But being the OpenMinded(TM) Tolerant(TM)
people they are, they will probably continue to conflate
Muslims with Christians as on this site:
http://www.ravers.org/showarticle.php?id=2]

Sometimes, when you let a problem go on for too long,
there are no longer any easy answers. But that doesn't
make it hopeless. Lance Armstrong was almost killed by his cancer treatments...before going on to win Tour
de France again, and Again, and AGAIN.

You do understand that the polidicks speak to either arouse or calm the crowds, depending on their own need.

You wrote:

"Nowhere, do I find Christ calling for the death of unbelievers. DEATH to all terrorists. The sooner the better. "

Can't tell from clicking on your ID if you're a Christian
or not.
If you are, there is a certain irony in your statements:
endorsing that which Christ forbids.

If you are not, there is no irony.
However, it seems Christ has rather strong feelings about
children [Matt 18:1-10]

Reading the reference is left as an exercise to the
interested reader.

Thinking about this today, I remember an old quote by President Reagan I hear from time to time. It never dawned on me that he may have been talking in code and already knew the danger of the Islamic threat to the world. Let me repeat the quote here:

"In our obsession with antagonisms of the moment, we often forget how much unites all the members of humanity. Perhaps we need some outside, universal threat to make us recognize this common bond. I occasionally think, how quickly our differences worldwide would vanish if we were facing an alien threat from outside this world. And yet, I ask is not an alien force ALREADY among us?" -Ronald Reagan to a full session of the United Nations-September 21, 1987 (Bold=my empasis)

He was no stranger to the Islamic threat -- the 'Alien Force --and it could well be that he was foretelling a condition that would unite the world as it prepares to rid itself of this menace to civilization.

I saw some idiot demo on a talk show trivilizing the President's stance on terror, insinuating that we would not be attacked again. They would like us to believe that only the Americans are hated. Not so. The terrorists want to control the whole world.

My heart goes out to all those people in Russia and hope THEY will unite to protect their country.

And yet, I ask is not an alien force ALREADY among us?" -Ronald Reagan Theren us no more 'alien' force of hatred for humanity than Satanic impetus ... and from where I view these days, that is precisely the alien force directing the Islamofascists. The clue is their insistence that they are the army of god and our failing 'Christian' nation is the great satan ... the father of lies/a murderer from the start uses reverse-speak effectively, calling black white, right wrong, and night day. The Islamic fanatics are under the strongest of delusions so don't look for converts amongst such servants of evil.

"Islamic fanatics are under the strongest of delusions . . . "

Rejection of the true God has made them thus, and they created a god in their own image and named it alla/islam.

The fanatics are the left hand of Islam. The moderates are the right hand. It takes both hands to press and mold. The carrot, the stick. The good cop, the bad cop. As had been said many times on FR, moderate Islam is the Trojan Horse -- the shielder and support group.

I do not differentiate between the 'fanatics' and the 'moderates.' It's all the same ancient death cult to me. islam is as islam does.

I agree; there is so much on the line this election.

From the post-convention polls, I'm hopeful the American people are coming around to this conclusion.

Why is the press NOT covering this story? (or barely covering it?)

If I hear one more thing about an ex-president's heart by-pass surgery, I'm going to scream. They put this at the top of each hour? Arghhhh! This is not the the lead story by any means.

It could be argued that the hurricane story should be first because it's happening in real time, involves large numbers of people in our country, and has done tremendous damage. The terroist attack on Russian children, (this is their 9/11), should be next. War on Terror needs to be mentioned also. The California fires and election news should be covered too. It's not that Clinotn's surgery is not a story, but, from the way it's being covered, you'd think he was the current president.

The press is not helping anyone by down-playing and soft-pedaling the details of Islamofacist massacre of children in Russia, not to mention the Al-Queda connection there. All this does is lull our people into a false sense of security, when they most need to be alert and awake. Not good.

That is what I want to know, and part of why I believe there may have been a "fix" in as Beslan. Suspicious here is the lack of preparation for an assault by the commandos. Yes, the assault was not anticipated at that moment, but after a long siege, the assault plans, in my opinion, should have been in place and well planned.

Beslan either seems to represent either rank incompetence or some deception on the part of Russian authorities.

However, as has been pointed out to me by a professional in these matters who posts here (me being a non-soldier), many subterfuges may have been effected by the terrorists. Hence, the events might not have been what they seem---even to journalists present at the scene.

Is it believable that Iran helped finance this attack? If so why is Putin set on helping Iran the build nukes?

Did the attack at Beslan hurt Putin?

No, it helped him. He had the excuse he wanted to seize more power.
