This isn't about the Koran, it is about people using it to justify their separatist demands. Any passage in the old testament can be taken out and used to claim our religion is a religion of war too. The difference is that in the Bible, they are as you say - descriptions. In the Koran, they are injunctions. For example:

Don't make that mistake dude. There aren't any passages that order you in the present tense to make war on non-believers, to the best of my knowledge just retelling of the Lords commading of an obliteration of a specific group or area in the past. Also, your handle is followerofchrist, so our religion actually has no instances of Jesus telling the flock to kick ass and take names on his behalf. If anyone has to worry about the nuances of the old testament with regards to today it's the Judaism followers :-)
